Ok. I feel that I need to address this silliness as it seems to have gotten way out of hand and I feel that I may have started this whole "leaving the board" thing. My intention when I did thatwas to try to give everyone here a wake up call, including myself. I felt that the posts were getting way too personal and some people were guilty of making personal attacks on others. I myself had been guilty of perhaps responding to some people in an arrogant "I know more about hockey than you do" tone and thanks to some members pointing that out to me, I have adjusted my attitude (thanks MC).

But instead of acting as a wake up call it seems to have only served to have people escalate personal attacks on each other. Look, we all have our favorite players. And yes, some of us have the habit of over anylzing and focusing on the negatives. And at times, discussions get heated. Those are all good things. It is our PASSION that unites us and makes habs fans the greatest!! But when posts degenerate to the point where personal threats are being made and people are leaving the board it is time for all of us to give our collective heads a shake people!!!!!! When I see people starting posts that are CLEARLY meant to evoke a reaction from certain posters they do not like it is, in my opinion, a waste of space and extremely juvenile. Now, before some of you jump down MY throat, I am taking my share of the blame and have been far from perfect. But people. lets start acting like grown ups and stop the "he started it" rhetoric. As grown ups we need to be sensible enough to walk away. I am finding the easiest thing to to do when I find someone is getting really heated over one of my posts is just to ignore it and let it die down (again that HABS FAN passion ) Maybe the person is just having a bad day?

I have noticed that with some people (including myself) you can tell when they are having a bad day or bad week. Their posts tend to be overly negative. But whne things are going good for me in my life I tend to look at things in a more positive light. I think that in a sense, this board tends to be an outlet for us.

I guess in closing I will just say to all the people who have left the board, take the time to cool off and come back. Your opinions are valued. Allow Mario to talk to the people who are being offensive and be a mediator. If people cannot respect each other on this board then they should be gone. Period. What I love about this board is the fact that everyone has such a wide variety of backgrounds. People like MC and habgirl are just pure fans. They do not come from a playing or coaching background but they look at the game from a total passion perspective. That is nice. People like me who have been involved in the game at a high level since I was 5 tend to look at the game very anylitically (perhaps too much so). But somewhere in the middle is the BALANCE. And without the wide range of personalities on this board we lose that balance. And, to me, that is a shame.

Tks Barry for the post- I as well have been giving this alot of thought over the past few days and it concerns me and saddens me to see  people leaving the board. I think we all need to keep in mind the hard work and dedication that Mario has put into this board.  It has brought all us Hab fans together, and we owe it to him to ensure that his efforts don't go down the drain.

Lets go Habs

Last night, or whall I say this morning, I read many posts.  WHat is all these personal attacks?  THEY MUST STOP!!!

Batty hit it right on, it's our passion for the Canadiens that unites us all.

But lately, a few individuals, are really getting nasty with their attacks.

I WILL NOT TOLERATE this anymore, regardless of who the poster is, and how many posts you've posted.

Thank you.

Mario

It's a terrible feeling to not feel "safe" when one wants to voice their opinion on GOHABS. I'd like to be able to post without getting lambasted for my thoughts, as they are usually positive (for the most part).

I also grew tired of those that "buzz kill" after every game, including the games we win. To constantly complain about & bash certain players e-v-e-r-y s-i-n-g-l-e- g-a-m-e or d-a-y.... it's just unnecessary.

Is life really that terrible that we need to complain about everything? We understand there are those on here that dislike certain players on the team..... everybody knows this, we just don't need the constant reminders. I not sayin' don't complain.... that's crazy.... but to go on & on & on & on & on.... it pushes people out.

We have only played, what?, 10 games so far??? & we've heard the same complaints about certain teammates at least 500 times over the last 10 games. That's a lot for anyone to take.

Our team isn't that bad, we are in good standings right now (in my opinion)... Discussin' & debatin' flaws.... that's the fun.... regurgitatin' the same rants day in & day out, that's not much of a good time.

Heyyyy welcome back MCGirl!

Looks like the 'time-out' has re-charged your enthusiasm!  Glad that you choose to participate once again!!!  This IS a better forum WITH you...and And-o looks forward to everyone following the same rules with a renewed emphasis on respect!!!

A tip though for helping you cope with the poster(s) you perceive as being constantly negative and/or repetitive...simply scroll past any/all respective posts you find too much!  So long as they are not concerning you personally...as apparently IS the rule...that shouldn't be a big problem!?!?!?

...and kudos to 'Batty33' for these VERY wise and adult like thoughts!

...and MEGA Kudos to our beloved 'Super Mario' for his TOTALLY Freudian slip of Glacial proportions regarding 'Batty33'!!!  (especially ironic is that it occured in a post heralding 'respect'...the ability to mock one-self is the mark of a humble genius...A CLASSIC!)

Glad that the silliness is over. it's just a game and this forum should be an enjoyable way to voice our opinions on our favourite team.
It should be a fun interaction between fans of the greatest hockey team in the world!!
I don't post every day but read the posts everyday to see other peoples opinions.
It really bothered me that personal attacks were turning some people off, stopping them from posting.
Glad you are all coming back.
I hope Habgirl is still reading, and comes back too.....

great post barry!

Ive been meannig to post something along the same lines for a couple days myself  but havent got around to it. Ive been really busy and i even missed the whole thing with MC and RIP leaving ( no pun intended on RIP leaving...see if any of you get that...lol )

ANYWAYS. I take a very light approach when i post after games. I do not like over reacting during posts and i try to keep things plain and simple ( although explaining feelings can sometimes be impossible ) Im just glad i have THE BEST site to do it on. And it is THE BEST forum because of the people here. Without all of you and i mean that ALL OF YOU, this board wouldnt be the same. Everyone has their place on this board ( as long as they respect themselves and others ) and i hope to never see anyone leave because the way they are treated ( even though i believe one already has...i dont want to see it happen again )

Mario puts ALOT of work, time and effort into keeping this site alive and running, without him and his work, this whole thing would not be possible ( which scares me really because i do not want it to ever end or lose touch with many of you.)

Mario, i am forever greatful for your work! Thank you

GO HABS GO!!!!

 Glad you're posting again MC!

You historically have been one of the toughest posters as you can give back two fold what you receive but the personal attacks don't make it right. Though, it's possible that's why posters including myself don't hold back on any topic because your grit is taken for granted. Again, if I have personally attacked you, I'm sorry but you have to know it was inadvertant. I historically do not try or go out of my way to personally attack anyone but if I'm personally attacked first, it's human nature to throw it back.

My thinking is, Habgirl left on your behalf because she didn't really express that she was offended by any post in any rebuttal like she usually does. She just out of the blue said goodbye. She's a class act for showing her support in this way for you and against personal attacks. Is there a way you can talk her into coming back? This board is a better place with her also!

***She too grew tired of all the negativity on the board & decided to break free.

Don't worry though, I'm tryin' to get her back postin' again. Peace has been made on the board & she'll see "all is well" again. (us gals tend to stick together ) I've emailed her & PM'd her.... if that fails to get her attention, I'll call her. ***

& Thanks for your words, they are very kind. I know I can be a bear too.

Barry,

I haven't been posting for a while (over a year) because of this very reason.  When I was a GoHabs frequenter (which I will be again, starting NOW!), the best part of this site was the friendship and camaraderie I experienced with almost every poster.

You've made a great post, and kudos to you for stepping up and accepting some of the responsibility.  Let's keep it clean, we're all passionate Canadiens fans here.  A common passion is an absurd reason to create any tension or hatred.  When reading and replying to posts we need to keep in mind that everyone who reads them is in fact a person, and not just any person, a habs fan - what is there to disrespect about that?

You're a class act.

Cheers,

LeMac
