Koivu, Ryder & Higgins were each MINUS 3 last night (in only 12-to-13 minutes of ice)! How brutal is that???

(We can analyze that game to death though...but the bottomline is that the Sabres are a good team that is on a MAJOR hotstreak right now! Call And-o NUTSO...but he'd rather have 'Lady Luck' riding shot-gun with the Habs in May than October!!! In other words, a 8-9-10 game winning streak in October is NO BIG DEAL!!!)

I was gonna ask about that. Why are we blaming the second line when the first line was -3. I did not see or hear the game so I have no idea other than the stats.

Fourth line wasn't impressive either.

Simple John. Two reasons:

1. Buffalo might be the best coached team I have seen in years. Discipline, skill, hard work and game plan execution. Ruff is no idiot. He knows that the engine that has been allowing the habs to cruise along is that first line...game plan? Shut it down...Let Kovalev and sammy bomb around the periphery all they want...whoopty do! Looks good but ultimately useless...

2. For the first 7 games that first line has carryed this team( with some unexpected help from Bonk and the third line...thank god or we would be in a real pickle). Eventually, carrying the brunt of BOTH offensive and defensive responsibility will take it's toll...we saw it last night.

I have said it before the start of the season...Not addressing that second line center issue in the off season was a shocker.

I can only hope Gainey has something up his sleave or we will see that first line burn out before the 30 game mark...

Ok, well, since Bonk and Johnson don't seem to need Perez. Let's put Pleks on the 3rd line and Perez on the 2nd line with Kovy playing center. Can't be any worse than now, can it?

disagree on Perez. One of our better forwards so far, although he can't buy a goal.

Listened to part of the game on Buffalo radio and even the Buffalo commentators
mentioned how bad Sammy & Kovy played in the first two periods.........by not
showing up while earning big pay checks.

And-o really doesn't think that Koivu/Ryder/Higgins had to go 'above and beyond' last night in terms of their coverage assignments!

The plain truth is they just got beaten like a FedEx truck on Christmas eve!!! (Saku just dropped a few coverages totally...Ryder as well...and Higgins seemed to not be moving his feet as quickly as usual)

Really though...what's the point in even trying to 'match lines' with Buffalo???  They have three top lines in And-o's opinion!!!

...and BTW...Bonk, 'Hogin & Johnson'ville have quietly been the Habs best line for about 3 of the past 4 games...hence the 2 losses (they are the 3rd line afterall)!!!

Riddle And-o this...what would that game have looked like with Vinny LeCavalier centering Higs and Ryder while Koivu lit a fire between Kovy and Samy???  (how long must And-o wait my Lord????)

I agree once again. The nice thing about this post is that I get the sense and-o recognizes that Koivu is in fact worth every penny...now he just needs some help at center.

A big center with some talent is required...Vinny would be pretty difficult to land but if I were Gainey, I would be sending out some of my best bait( draft picks and perhaps Chipchura etc)...This team is doomed for another first round exit with the existing centers.

well for sure the team could use a solid #1 or #2 centre with emphasis on size and mobility but lets not start taking away from the guys that are bustin thier buts out there(1st line). On the score sheet it said -3 but First one was a shorty which we all saw Ryder lagging out of the zone and knocking the puck off his own guys stick(so we got to put that all on him) and last one was empty net. so we gonna shoot em for one legit 5 on 5 goal against the best(so far) line in hockey who just happen to be buffalo's checking line. They play hard and they are GOOD!!!. Bounces going thier way too!!

Give me 7 out of 18 pts vs Buffalo and we'll beat up the rest of the Division to get our pts.I dont see one team in this Division having a winning record against them maybe even the conference!Barring major injuries.

How good would Forsberg look with Kovalev and Samsonov?  Is Philly looking to retool yet?

No Forsberg please! We already have a player on long term IR.
