Well an off game new thread but I could not help myself. Basically the sabres are just too good( it's 3-0) as I type this.
That second line is being exposed tonight. How long before Gainey finds a replacement for Plek? Not that I think Plek is at fault. I just do not think he is suited for second line duty and especially with the style of the two Russians.
Huet looks average all around( although that first goal may have sunk the ship).
All in all...Look no further than the second line for the trouble so far tonight( and a dash of Huet thrown in there).
I figure if the habs do not pot a couple and the second line continues it's stink fest...we will see a change...not sure what that will be however.

Carbo should have pulled Huet after the third goal. C'mon! We were playing spectacular in the first, after that first goal we lost confidence... it all went down hill from there.
But Huet has played ok since. He's been a downer, but it's not just him, and it's not just the second line, although they're up there on tonight's s**t list.
It's funny how EVERYONE last year thought that Pleks was good enough for the second line. No one gave a thought to the fact that he was often matched up against other teams weaker lines.
I'm not hating on the guy, but the Habs have not had a solid second-line centre is a loooong time. Ribs was a joke and everyone called for his head. But Pleks isn't any better. This is an issue that should have been adressed in the off-season.
Regardless, we did lose to the best team in the league tonight with enough speed to make even our fast skaters look slow. I think that compared to the average NHL team, the Habs are still better off, second-line centre or not.
Guys, it is not so bad, we just lost to the team that NO ONE has been able to beat yet. And its not like we got beat bad. 1 fluke goal, a short handed goal that was the product of a weird play at the opposing teams blueline and a screened AND deflected shot. Its not like we were hammered 8-1 or something. technically 3-1 final 4 with the open netter, but we didnt look THAT bad. Kovalev had a few dumb penalties and briere has got to be one of my least favorite players ( i was PRAYING TO GOD Souray or Komi or even LAts would level him out and take him out for a couple weeks ....the guy is skating around like he is god and crying to the refs ALL the time and getting his way ) Im sure the habs will turn it around against Boston on thursday! GO HABS GO!

i dont think their that fast , they are fast and they do everything with speed , skate, pass, forecheck, we are also fast but we dont do everything with speed .
thats what i was getting at , everything is done at a high pace . i only saw half the game but we weren't dominated , a bad goal , a few costly mistakes and were down 3-0 .
Guys, we are still a noticeable step behind one of the best teams in the league, but we are getting closer. Remember that it took Ruff some time to get those guys to buy into his system, and now look at them!
4-2-2 is ok by me, with 2 of our 4 losses against Buffalo, and plenty of games against good teams. But there is still a lot of work to do. Huet is starting very slow, the defense looks shakey, and the 2nd line has been up and down at best. GOHABSGO!

Muley- agree for the most part. My ideal would be to have Koivu on the second line and find a workhorse power center for Higgins and Ryder. But that ain't gonna happen. Carbo threatened to break up the second line after the last loss but did not follow through with it. Why? The worst thing a coach can do is threaten to do something and not follow through with it (you will find the sam ething with your kid Mulsey )
But still, in spite of Ninny and his brain fart, we lost to a team that., to be fair, we are not in the same league as. They have the whole package. I looked hard last night for weaknesses but really could not find any. Easy for us to blame Huet but to simplify things. we only scored ONE goal. So Huet would have really had to stand on his pumpkin to pull that one out.
I thought Latendresse played better and seems to be getting more confidence every time out. And that shot by Souray that went off the crossbar..I am sure Miller had to change his undies in between periods after that.

I think Barry you're right... now's the time to make the switch with Latendresse.
The threat was made, but he gave the 2nd line one more go and they responded well against the Avalanche.
Now they've faltered again and it's time to break the line up.
Samsonov needs to start over on the fourth line. Begin should be switched to the wing. And Lapierre should get a game as 4th line centre (with Murray sitting until he remembers how he got here).
