I honestly do not agree with the seeding method in the NHL. WHOOPTY DOO you won your division. Just because your division SUCKS and you have crap teams in it does not mean you should be granted home ice advantage when other team who has battled ALL season long against the conference's best has to settle for 5 place or let ( but low and beheld, we have more points than you. ) I am obviously speaking of teams like New Jersey at the moment. It is early, but look at past years and there is ALWAYS a tram that finished 3rd place but has less points than say 6th and is only there because of the seeding process. Look at montreals position. In probably one of the toughest divisions in the league with powers like Buffalo and Ottawa ( when on their game ) We also have decent teams like Boston and Toronto who can pull a few games out of their rear ends from time to time. We have to play EACH of these teams 8 times and EARN our points. While teams like New Jersey have a total of 24 games split between the ISLANDERS!!!! PENGUINS!!! AND FLYERS!!! OOOH NOOOOO!!!!!
Last year look at NAshville and Detroit. They both have St louis, Columbus and Chicago in their division and both finished high thanks to it. Teams should be placed by how they FINISH. Not on if they win their division. If they want to feast on the crap teams in their division work up lots of points by the end of the year and then enter the playoffs with lots of points so be it. But when a team like montreal who has battled all season and knows how to play against GOOD teams enters the playoffs dont start calling US the underdogs in the series because we lost more games.
Apparently "good" teams that will not make it past first round thanks to seeding
Detroit, New jersey, atlanta or carolina

I agree, in the old NHL it was good to make the divisions mean something and put competition in there, but now since you see your division so much more anyway, it is kind of redundant. If you beat up on your division, you will do quite well.
Johab- I do not disagree with you but the problem is that yoru division may be strong this year, but suck 2 years down the road. Look at Jersey's division. Who would have thought that Philly would go in the tank? Philly has traditionally been strong and at, or near the top of that division. Pittsburgh will not be a fun team to play this year and I feel bad for the teams in that division having to face Malkin, Crosby and Stall moviing forward. I think that fo rthe most part. these things even out.
