Let's give Shelley his props. He's leading the league for defenceman in Goals and Points. All he needs to do is work on his 5-5 play and well, we have found our #1 D-Man.
...although #1??? And-o thinks that Shelley himself would think that was a stretch!
What do you think of this JohnM??? Markov #1 (although he needs to start competing nightly)...Rivet #2...Shelley #3...Komi #4!?!?!?
...clearly though, Shelley is a PP specialist!
(Did anyone catch Shelley's comments on CBC after the game??? He credits Higgins as being the main guy on the PP/offense for getting to the net!!! The kid is destined to be a hero in Montreal!!!)
Right now I don't care if he's weak in 5-on-5. Our penalty kill looks fine with him out there, and he is a force on offense. Plus a banger and a leader. Good for him. I'm ready to vote for re-signing him already...
Here's my list, And-o: Markov #1: ok so he's not mindblowing so far this year, but he's not bad either, and he makes it look easy so it's easy to overlook him. He's our key guy.
Komisarek #2: perfect complement to Markov. Everything Markov can't do, he does. This is guy is getting good fast.
Rivet and Souray: NOT a good pairing, because they are both kind of slow. But Rivet is at least a good reader of the play, so he does protect Souray somewhat. I think I'd actually prefer:
Rivet and one of Niinimaa/Dandenault/Streit/Bouillon (whoever's playing well) as #3 and #4, with Souray a #5 or 6 who gets a lot of PP and PK time.
I miss Bouillon. I seriously think our defense would be different with him there.

No, but I did read this comment from Souray in the Gazette:
"You see guys like Saku Koivu standing in front of the net and creating traffic and that makes it tougher for the goaltenders to see the shots from outside."
