Be sure to say how Chip, Lock, Kost, Benoit, and Danis look. Stats only tell a small part of the story.

Anyone know when Grabo comes back from injury?

Ok, I'm back from the game.

Kostitsyn, Lapierre and Locke were probably the most impressive Bulldogs tonight. Yann Danis had some great moments, but also let in a few soft goals. He'll have to improve on that if he's to make it in the big league.

Based on tonight's game, Lapierre looked the best. He was definitely the hardest working player. His only problem is he took way too many penalties. It seemed like every hit he threw was a penalty.

Cory Locke was also really good, scoring two goals. My concern has always been about his size, but if he keeps delivering efforts like he did tonight, who knows, he may succeed in the NHL. After all, guys like St. Louis make it.

In the end, it was a very fun night. The negatives were the Dogs lost 5-4, and a girl got hit in the head with a puck. She was bandaged up when they took her out, but she seemed ok. Other than all that though, very fun game to watch.

Thanks for the update, Jedah!  I think Locke should get a call up sometime this year.  Anyone who can post big numbers in the AHL is NHL-calibre.

I saw Benoit in the Truro game, and was very impressed by him as well.

I only caught the 1st period of last night's game. Lapierre took 2 penalties, one which I thought was questionable. He looked to play a physical game, had good speed, and maybe the type of player that Barry thought we are lacking(Tucker style- in your face- get your nose dirty). Jedah- Is that a good assessment?

Yes, I would agree for sure. What you saw on TV is what I saw from actually being there. He's a hard working player who has talent. He's going to be a good one in this league. I'm really excited that I'm going to Hamilton 9 more times this year, so I'll be able to assess these guys even more.

What I did see of the game, Traverse didn't play badly. He even rattled one off the post on a 2 on 1.

lol. That one gave me a good laugh.

He did hit the post in all fairness to him, when in the NHL he never even would have gotten a shot off, so that's not bad on his part. But really, Traverse is Traverse, so he played like his usual self.

I watched that game. No one impressed me at all. This is my prediction:

1. Chipchura...will be a solid fourth line NHL center one day. 10 goals per and some solid PK time.

2. O'byrne...he is big and can hit...will be a solid 6-7th  NHL d-man in 2 years

3. Kotstysin...will not make the cut

4. locke....see Kotstysin.

5. Laperierre...will be a Murray kind of guy. Will play NHL maybe even a full season. But nothing special.

6. Aubin...great junior player...never will play in the NHL.

Muller, I hope you've seen these guys play a few other times, because based on one game those are some pretty dire predictions. You sure? A lot of other people see Chipchura as a #2-3 centre, and Kostitsyn as a can't miss top 2 line player.

Lapierre...I hoping he's our next Begin.

Plouf...I am sure. Chipchura MIGHT make it to a solid number 3 center scoring 15-20 goals/season.

Kostitsyn is a can't miss top 2 line guy alright...in the swiss league

Funny you say this Mulsey!

...not to knock your assessment, but many said the exact same things about some kid named Gainey when he came out of Peterborough wayyyyyy back when!!!

(Hence, And-o thinks Chip is likely headed for something a tad better!  Maybe a hybrid of a Gainey and a Skrudland...with a titch of McPhee!!!)

...he's just too much of a character guy (in And-o's opinion) to be a fourth liner though!

Mulsey- seems to me if your assesment is correct that we have a whole system full of Garth Murrays and Steve Begins? Not good, not good.

Barry...the future has arrived. Komi/higgins/Ryder/Perez/Plek. Throw in a couple of suprise additions and "Gaineyisms" next year...and there is your contending team.

But that Bulldogs team has very little to offer.

I do agree with And-o. Chipchura is loaded with character which will bring him far. I think a Skrudland/mcPhee type is about right. Nothing wrong with that.

I'm not ready to give up on the Kostitsyn brothers just yet. Or Grabovsky. Or Yemelin or O'Byrne.

I alluded to a couple of guys NOT on the Bulldogs...Yemelin and Grabovsky.

Forgot to mention latendresse as a present future...also not on the dogs.

I just found every one on the dogs lacked the pure skill to play significant roles in the NHL. Chipchura is the only one who will play a roll...on the third line( an important line). IMO

Sorry Muller, I agree with you often, but on this one, I have to disagree on some of your notes.  One minor correction, Grabovski is on the Bulldogs.  He has played in three games (he missed the first two with injury).

Lapierre is one of the hardest working individuals I have ever had the opportunity to watch.  He is fearless.  He goes into corners and comes out with the puck.  He stands tall in front of the goalie and creates havoc.  He has three goals in five games and four points.  I have seen him create scoring opportunities with his hard work and determination.  May not be first line material, although he plays like a certain first line center that we all (well, most) know and love.

Chipchura:  I find it hard to believe that after watching one game of his, in his first full season with the 'Dogs, that you believe him to be of no more talent than a third line (and that was after you said fourth line) center.  Personally, I think this kid has a whole world of potential, and will surprise you.  He has gotten steadily better every year in junior, and managed to hang around for a while at the Habs' training camp this year.  I say he breaks in top the line up on third line and earns his way up higher.

Kostitsyn has all of the tools to make it to the NHL.  The kid can fly and has pretty good vision.  The problem is, as everyone points out, the Habs don't need wingers with speed or vision or anything else right now, they need centers.  Kostitsyn will probably be our trade bait in the future.

You are probably right about Locke, but I disagree with your reasoning, which I assume is that you think he doesn't have the talent.  He is able to score and set up others, he plays a really good defensive game and he is already the leader of his team (in the first game against the Moose, a large brawl was started when Locke got rocked by a clean hit and his teammates went nuts.)  However, he's only 5'9".  I don't think he has the talent of a Briere or St. Lois or Koivu to stay too long in the NHL if he makes it.

I can't really add to O'Byne, he would've made a great defenseman ten years ago, a la Hatcher, where he could use his size and strength to clear out in front of the net.

You left out Benoit.  He had 77 points in 67 games his last year of junior.  I know he isn't in junior anymore, but his first year with the 'Dogs he had 26 points in 70 games.  AND, his defensive play is fairly solid.  I say he challenges for one of the openings on the blue line next year.

I don't think it is doom and gloom down on the farm.
