According to a story on Sportsnet today. Aaron Downey is reportedly considering retirement. If his concussion is as bad as it appears, this may be true.

I for one am very disappointed. I always liked what Downey brough to this team, but if it is true, let me be the first to wish him the best of luck in whatever he does later in life.
i dont believe that barry i listened to the stock exchange on the team 990 today and they were talking to downey on the phone and he said he is fine , feels better than he did before the game . he will be out for a few games because i believe there is a rule you have to sit out a week after a concussion but he said he was good to go .

Ya I heard that interview too Red which is why I was surprised tyo find that article on the Sportsnet Website. But let's keep in mind, concussions are fickle things. There are many players who felt they were "good to go and would be back in a week" who eventually had to retire. Lets hope Downey is not one of them.

Downey is really well liked by his team. The guys rallied for him and got the win. In saying this though, he just isn't a good hockey player. For leadership and support of his team, he's a good guy to carry as a spare. A good moral guy. Ironic that he was dressed for that game because Calgary play it tough that he would be the receiver. Just can't skate with your head down for five or six strides in this league.
A guy like Sens Neil would be great to have as a tough guy. He can play the game as Barry mentioned before.
Hate to see Downey get hurt because of what he brings to the dressing room but not for what he brings to the ice.

The game has changed dramatically and the role of the enforcer has changed along with it. Gone are the days where you can afford to carry a goon who can barely skate (no I am not saying Downey is one of them), sit him on the bench, and throw him out there twice a game to stir up poop. Number one there is not near as much fighting as there was so the need for such a player has been diminished. And number two, you are only allowed to dress 16 players and two goalies now so you do not have the luxury of carrying any deadweight. Guys like Chris Neil, and even Wade Belak are the way of the future.

same here spidermanNL , but didn't you think that it was a cheap shot and a penalty should have been called for elbowing? if it happen to a player from laffville, then TSN would be showing it 24/7 and calling for someone's head?
The news on Aaron Downy's condition is good. According to RDS, the Montreal Canadiens forward is feeling much better and is not experiencing any after-effects of a severe concussion suffered earlier this week.
The report claims the only obstacle preventing Downey from getting back on the ice at this point is medical clearance.
Downey was injured in the first period of Montreal's game against the Calgary Flames Tuesday. He was crossing the red line with his head down when Flames defenceman Robyn Regehr dropped him with a thundering shoulder check. He lay motionless on the ice for a minute, but later was able to get up and looked wobbly as he was helped off the ice.
Regehr, who was not penalized on the play, said his intent was not to injure Downey.
"He was trying to get the red line to make a dump-in and I saw my opportunity to close in on him. I just put the shoulder to him. I hit him right on the button. For me, in my position, I'm supposed to be physical. I'm pretty sure it was clean."
Afterwards Canadiens head coach Guy Carbonneau called it a "pretty bad concussion" and there were some concerns about his playing career.
