Question RE: RDS
Permalink Closed

As it was last night, my game was on RDS and was in french. Are all the Habs games going to be on RDS. The past few seasons I have had the dish, the Habs would be on the other teams feed and announcers. I do not care, because I love the games in french. I was just curious why Chigaco did not have announcers on this evening

Yes, Habs games are always broadcast on RDS. They hold the rights to the games currently.

Ok thanks. So Montreals game was only on because Chicago does not show home games. Boy that sucks. What r the Chicago fans suppose to do. Buy tickets to each game. Maybe its like the bruins, u must spend your hard earned cash on a cable channel to see the home games. Thats too bad for a minute I thought I could see all RDS games in french this year

the way i heard it the owner (bill wirtz i believe) refuses to show home games on tv because he wants the fans to go to the games instead of staying home to watch the game . if i remember correctly he has never broadcast homw games .

The RDS announcers were saying tonight that the the arena is owned by two families, one being Wirtz and the other being the family that owns the Bulls. The Arena is paid for and is only 10 years old. The announced crowd at tonight's game was in the 11000 range which the announcers stated was very generous with alot of empty seats. I don't see how Wirtz is going to build a fan base if he doesn't televise some of the games to entice people into the rink.

This is very sad to see an Original 6 team being abused like this. They have some very talented players on the Blackhawks this year and in a heavy sports market like Chicago, they should be putting these games on tv. What makes this even more sad/pathetic is that the AHL's Chicago Wolves get some of their home games put on tv!  I just dont understand how the NHL can allow this type of fan abuse to continue?  Did anyone else notice how dead the arena was for crowd noise? That may be due to the lack of fans at the game but still, Havlat scores a beauty 1 minute into the game and it sounded like a funeral. We bash teams like Florida and Atlanta for lack of support for their teams, but they make more noise than the Hawks fans do. Something has to be done, this shouldnt continue like this.

speaking of origional 6, it's sad that these teams don't play each other more often! people will say it's the format, but its more enteraining when these teams play!!

Hate to tell you but watching the Habs play in a poorly lit arena and sparsely attended game was not more entertaining than Habs-Flames (the 2 teams seem to hate each other...must be from 89) and dare I suggest wont nearly be the same as Habs-Avs on saturday night.

Not only that but neither team seemed all that interested in winning.

But truth be told there is no game I enjoy watching more than Habs-Bruins...thats the real rivalry ...we should play then 20 times a year!
