If it is a checking line, Kovy is a liability, and Gui is still learning the ropes of checking. If it is a scoring line, Begin is not a good enough centre, and no one else is even a centre at all. Begin does not have the offensive instincts or the spped to complement those guys, and While I can see chemistry between Kovy and Lats, both are right wingers who pretty much need to stay on the right wong. Neither can really play the off wing. And How could Begin and Kovalev play together? I like both, but they have exact opposite mindsets. Kovy is a skill guy who waits for his chances and likes to dangle to try and get them. Some shifts he doesn't skate that hard. Begin skates north and south hits everything that moves, doesn't think about whether passing or shooting is best, and he couldn't possibly keep track of Kovy on the ice. They would rightfully get on each others so fast and that would kill Gui's confidence.
What is the possible upside or chemistry of this line? You normally have decent reasoning behind your posts, but for the life of me I can't see it this time. Please explain.
Gui belongs in Junior.....Period. To promote him and demote Perez is unlikely. If anything Perez should be promoted to the 2nd line. Send Gui to Junior ( he is not ready for this ) and bring up Kosty. Too many people being swayed by the Montreal media. And it isn't because of the line he is on. He is just not ready.
See pre-lockout version of the Canucks for And-o's rationale!
As in, the Bertuzzi (Gui)...Naslund (Kovy)...and Morrison (Begin) line!
Plus, Steve Begin's fireplug work ethic might rub off on Kovy!
Also, with Kovy's offensive talents...we need a few guys who can get to the net...which, in this case, would be Gui and Steve!
...and don't forget that Pleks and Sammy might better work-out with the likes of Perezhogin...or maybe even with Murray clearing some space out for them!
Bottomline though...Sammy/Kovy/Pleks are just too soft and flashy most nights!!! Carbo needs to come down hard on these guys and demand more shots on goal and far less cute stuff!
I agree with the idea of moving Latendresse up on paper, And-o, but I'm not blown away by Latendresse's work ethic, skating, hockey sense, etc... so far in the games that count (bearing in mind I missed the last 2).
I think he needs to step it up. We shouldn't be giving him big jobs when he hasn't handled the little ones very well yet. We don't want to create a primadonna.
if he goes back to junior we save his salary on the cap , and if we send him down we dont lose a year of his entrylevel status , asin this season wouldnt count as a years service towards free agency. and he might learn how to play hockey , hes not doing much up here , maybe even regressing .
I agree with hockey man, they should send Gui down, he would gain more experience and improve on his skating. would love to see him play for the Juniors.

Is it not quit epossible that Gainey and Carbo have set Lats up for failure by burying him on the 4th line? Think about it. Th emedia and fans would have had Carbos head had they sent him down after the camp he had. So this way, stick him on the 4th line where he cannot do much, limit his ice time, then say "He is not ready to play at the NHL level" and ship him back to the backwoods of Quebec without the backlash.

It is early, but so far Latendresse has not shown anything to have him elevated upwards from the fourth line. Last season, Higgins was buried on the fourth line, and there was not much production, but he worked his tail off on all shifts, won alot of battles in the corners, backchecked, in short did a lot of things that did not show up on the score sheet, but his work ethic gave him a shot to play with Koviu. Sure it's difficult to play on the fourth line, but DO SOMETHING. Thus far Latendresse has been tenative. Make yourself noticed so it forces Carbo to find a better spot in the lineup. Lats should have to earn a better spot, so far he has not done it.
