Now I know this will cause controversy, but something occured to me last night. I coached a Bantam AAA team here in NB. One year there was a kid who played on Moncton's team that we HATED to play against. He whined, dove, slashed, yapped, swore...and still managed to score a few goals in the process. This year his parents live in my Distrcit and he made my team (I did everything I could to cut him but he was too good).
By the 5th game of the season I realized that he was the type of player you hate to play against but LOVE to have on your team. Sure he takes the odd dumb penalty. But we must have gotten 30 power plays that year because the opposition were chasing his yappy ass all over the place. And he ended up with 20 goals that season. He was the type of kid whou could walk into the dressing room when we were getting our butts kicked and have the guys on fire the next period.
The habs are missing just such a player. As much as we love to hate Darcy Tucker, who would not love to have him in Montreal? Remember Claude Lemieux and the impact he had on the habs? Begin has a bit of Darcy Tucker in him but does not play enough to be effective. Guys like Tucker get the other team off their games as well as lighting a fire under their own players with their play. I strongly feel that Montreal is missing that type of player. This player cannot be a Downey who plays on the 4th line. He needs to be on the first couple of lines and able to be effective (Tucker had 28 goals last year..say what you want). This team is missing emotion and fire and has been for anumber of years.

Hey Barry - I was thinking the same thing the other day. How did we get this guy get away. This guy has tonnes of emotion and gets the team fired up. Just look at last year when he wasn't in the lineup - toronto suffered. Anyways I don't think Darcy would ever come back to Montreal but we do need someone like him.
I have a feeling that Chris Higgins can be that guy though. Not the guy that gets under the other teams skin but the guy that shows pride, emotion and drive to win every night.
As far as I remember it was Tremblay who said that he isn't a defensive player or a scorer and so didn't know what to do with him... then Houle traded him. Too bad, because I never had an issue with him and he would look great beside Bonk and Johnson.
Hey Barry...if And-o is reading you correctly...you are saying that what the Habs REALLY need is a guy with a disposition JUST LIKE AND-O!?!?!!?!?
...THEY WISH!
And-o suggests a few of his fav's...some still playing...Butch Goring, Sean Avery, Darcy Tucker, Darcy Hordichuk, Billy Smith, Wade Belak (the most misused player in the league), Chris Nilan, Mark Messier (THE BEST EVER...EVER...PERIOD)!
Ken Linseman was one that caused a lot of trouble and got away with it.
If I recall correctly, Darcy Tucker was a trouble maker within the team as well. He use to pick fights with everyone in the dressing room as well as during practices. He was known for giving the rookies a hard time during training camp, by fighting with them as well to avoid losing his job to a rookie, and I think they just got tired of it and sent him to packing.

He would have fit right in with the habs team last year then lol

Who would you classify Carolina's, or Tampa's , Darcy Tucker???? Darcy has not even brought the Leafs to the Stanley Cup finals. Leave the garbage behind and go forward with real skill. Tucker is only scoring because of Sundin. Remember Johnas Hoglund, he scored 25 with Sundin. Point is , I dont see those type of players on the last two Stanley cup winners. I could be wrong just let me know who they would be. In my eyes Tucker would of been a 4th liner with Carolina last year.

Tucket has 5 goals this year and is not even playing on Sundins line. He had 28 last year (more than just about anyone on the habs, including our 5 million dollar players). Carolinas "Tucker" turned out to be Justin Williams, but Eric Cole usually has that role. My point is that this guy brings emotion..something that the habs look like they could use most nights.
