Latendresse does not belong on the 4th line and I will tell you why. That line is supposed to be a shut down or checking line. Lats' strong point is not defensive hockey. But the thinking could be that by placing him in that role he will learn defensive hockey. I was one of the biggest supporters to keep him this year. But if you ar egonna plunk him out there for 5 minutes a game with Downey then maybe Junior is a better p;lace for him.

As of right now, LUCK. He's not seeing the shots, he's giving up huge rebounds and he hasn't been able to locate the puck. Other than that, he's doing okay. IMHO

Pleks is good and will find chemistry on the line
...that Latendresse will only learn resentment playing on THAT fourth line!
He will learn defensive play and he will learn to appreciate second line duty when he gets it.
...that Greg Johnson adds loads of speed and yet another option for the PK, although he is painfully soft along the boards!
That would be good if GREG was on our team. I assume that's an honest mistake though, and assuming you mean Mike, I agree.

Yup, but I think I am betting the opposite way as you.

Carbonneau did promise
...that Michael Ryder really can generate a shot-on-goal out of nothing at times!
That is in a nutshell why he is in the NHL
...that Alexei Kovalev is soon to be the newly designated 'whipping boy' of the 21,273 paying customers at the Bell Centre (can you say T-R-A-D-E-B-A-I-T Bob???)!
WRONG WRONG WRONG WRONG; WRONG WRONG WRONG WRONG; YOU'RE WRONG; YOU'RE WRONG; YOU'RE WRONG; YOU'RE WRONG (to the tune of Big Ben's chimes... from scrubs if you watch that show). Kovalev is scoring a point a game, and his line is JUST STARTING to find chemistry, can you say team point leader, all star, playoff MVP? OK, I'm exxagerating on that last part, but he if he becomes a whipping boy, we will be the dumbest fans on earth.

The second line seems to be getting it. If not, Koivu, Carbonneau, Gainey, and Youppi can all call them out. After that, juggle the lines. It is Carb's job to put lines together that can play together.
Granted I had an extra period to base this on, but I have been pro Kovy all along, so either I have been right all along, or I am still wrong.

Bit of both. You have to create your own luck, and by being in position for first shots and working to find the puck, he is doing his job. That being said, floppy sprawling goalies tend to be less consistent than technical ones, so it's luck that he is putting his better games together now.
barry i believe the third line is the shutdown line , johnson, bonk, and perez , the 4th line is your energy line , and if he wants to stay here he should be hitting more.
You got that right habsci, because (out of nowhere) I got called away and had to miss this #@#% game! But you guys are there with the detailed updates. I love it. And we win! And Kovalev scores, which is desperately needed.
I agree that our Defense looked good again tonight. Ninimaa has really looked solid back there and the trade was awesome. I thought our second line really picked it up tonight. Solid goaltending, a powerful powerplay, good penalty killing, winning faceoffs and blocking shots = victories.
I have been impressed by our efforts to date. Keep it up Carbo!

Good pint red. But I just feel that you are wasting him on an "energy line". Let the guys like Downey and Murray go out for 4 mins a game and bang people around.

...Koivu is a first line centre(along with solid PP PK and now faceoff centre)- habsci
Habsci- the problem is that Saks has a history of wearing down in that role over the course of an 82 game season and playoffs. He is awesome and strong right now because he has had all summer to train and rest. The habs will get a bit more mileage out of him this year because there are no Olympics which I strongly feel took some of the fizz out of his pop last year. Playing all year against giants like Sundin and Forsberg take their toll. In my humble opinion, if BG finds some strong support at center, we will have a much happier Saks at the end of the year. And a happier Saks is a more productive Saks.

Kovalev... scored game winner... say whatever you want about kovalev but he is a game breaker. 3 Points in 3 games... not bad
Samsonov... give him time... looks better everytime I see him
Johnson.... what I expected... this guy can score 20 goals and add 40 helpers... can play in any situation
Aebischer.... a pretty good goaltender, not really given a chance last season b/c of huet but played well for colorado before the trade ... 90 percent of luck is talent... I really think this guy is our number one goalie
Latendresse... earning his time on the fourth line... only 19 years old... this is a learning experiance for him... his time will come... Carbo will make this guy an all round player
Koivu... he does it all... what a leader and role model
Higgins/Ryder... getting better everytime and that's scary for the rest of the league
Markov... makes us a winner, look at the habs record with is guy in the lineup vs. when he is not
Souray... scary on the PP, coaches will not put out their best d-man on the PK when souray is out on the pp, fearing they might get hurt.
And-o, you are way off on Johnson. He was paramount to the PK success last night. Maybe you have a bias because he USED to be a Leaf? Compare Johnson to the trash we've suffered with over the last 5 years seasons...
Where else can you put Lats? He'll get some time on the 1st/2nd line this year. 3 games in is nothing. He's starting from scratch in experience so give it time. But, bow, does he ever look big out there? When was the last time we had someone look that ENORMOUS on the ice? You can't help but notice the kid. And only 19!
Whether or not he deserves it, Kovy is going to become a whipping boy soon if he doesn't produce a little more. I just think his swagger on the ice makes him look lazy. And Sammy just needs time. He's a proven player and just needs a few more games. So far this year, this line has been pretty good. Much better than with Ribs! Montreal fans are fickle but if we keep winning, no one will be a whipping boy.
You are bang on about Ryder and Bonk. Anyone watching RDS would have heard the praise lumped on Bonk by Demers. And for good reason. But, apparently, Bonk played hurt last year? Maybe I misheard. Anyway, Ryder is on the rise and he's still shy of his prime. Love him with Higgins. WOW!
I don't think a great captain like Saku will jump the gun and call out players - especially with 0 regulation losses!
Abby's been great and Huet can be so even if Carbo goes 41/41 I have no problems. Huet will probably get the start Saturday at home, he deserves it for last season.

No...No...No, maybe And-o wasn't clear!
The knock on Johnson is (and has ALWAYS been) that he is not nearly physical enough, especially for a guy with his build!
Johnson has speed and spirit along the boards (as evident last night) but he is soooooo soft physically!
You just wait and see...when this guy was a Laff, he would patsy around the ice getting shoved around like a rag doll when the going got the least bit difficult!!!
And-o hopes this has changed (it hasn't though) and/or I hope a guy like Begin pulls him aside and has a chat!!!
Granted I had an extra period to base this on, but I have been pro Kovy all along, so either I have been right all along, or I am still wrong.
................... or else you were wrong but now you're right, or else you were right but now you're wrong, or you're still wrong, or ......or.......... never mind.......
