...and no way is And-o reading a million posts to find out...but one thing is crystal clear --- Alexei Kovalev is one selfish, lazy, whiney, sucky princess of a hockey player...with all the talent in the World at his disposal!
Would And-o move Kovalev???...IN A NEW YORK MINUTE (how long is that exactly Brooky??)!!!
In fact, And-o could easily list ten better ways of spending those dollars.
However...Kovalev is a Hab...and it looks like Bob is gonna give him every opportunity to perform...and he sure can...if/when his mood is right! So...And-o will cheer for him...for now!
...on a side note, I bet anyone that he is hands-down THE most hated person in that dressing room!
And-o asks...imagine what 'Rocket' or 'Big Jean' would have thought about playing with the likes of this primadona??? Would they even talk to him??? And-o doubts it!
And-o, your thread is basically answering Fatherhab's thread that started the whole thing!
Fatherhab asked if we should trade Kovy to add the much needed centermen. The majority agreed with him.
I agree with your post also And-o. It would also justify the Sammy signing as he can fill in for Kovy's fancy dancy dangle! When it works, it's an exciting thing but more often than not it doesn't as his points indicated last season.
It was also brought up that a Madano (who is unhappy in Dallas) for Kovy trade would help us greatly.
Yes And-o, kovalev is one exciting player to watch, but based on last year...I find it more frustrating to watch a guy with immense talent "dangle" his way around 4 guys...WOW!...then lose the puck...
By the way...have you ever seen that guy "drive" to the net?
He is fun and entertaining but based on results...no thanks.
I don't see the Sammy flash yet... but I'll give him time it's only been 2 games.
As a replacement for Kovy? Not so sure about that.

MC, you have to admit over their careers(with Sammy's being shorter of course) that they have produced relatively even and also with +/- if you add up their average points per game. Where is the new guy with these stats?
Also they're very similer in the way they play and love to carry the puck but don't have the best vision for finding the open man. I agree Sammy is struggling but once he adapts and plays better, the similarities will be more evedent.

I agree.. I'm givin' him time before I critique him. We'll see how he plays for us.
I am pretty happy with our team right now, so I'm just sittin' by to see what happens. Our coachin' is good, our win was good.... our loss was almost good (givin' up a 2 goal lead twice sucked bigtime though) our shots on goal aren't to bad... I'm pretty content with everything. Now ask if I'm content in a month... that story could change drastically. Remember last season, I b!tched about Kovy on a few occasions too... he can really piss ya off sometimes... but I believe in lettin' the season progress before makin' a final assessment, 2 games in is just not enough time.

As for Kovy, well, we know what we got with him. So far it hasn't been worth the $ except that first playoff series.
Believe me Johnny... the last thing I wanna do is start Saku bashin' (he's doin' alright in my books).... I was just makin' an observation
& as for Kovy... that's true, there are many players not worth what they are bein' paid (Theo was/is def. one of 'em... possibly the NHL poster child for bein' over paid)
The guy pisses me off. He is lazy, beyond lazy, and he won't make an effort out there at all.
Talent or no talent, he does not want to play, so grant him his wish and sit him down for a while so he can see the view from up above and see what making an effort really looks like. Or better yet get rid of him.
TRADE DEADLINE -- The trade deadline falls on the 40th day prior to the conclusion of the regular season. Presuming an April 8th conclusion to the 2006-07 regular season, the trading deadline would occur February 28,2007.
Don't expect the issue to go away any time soon, unless the moon falls out of the sky.
I think you guys are being unfair to Kovalev. Its only two games and the line is starting to buzz. he does have two assists and the whole "Komi taking the puck from his shot" is totally out of proportion. at that situation Komi jumped in to the rush and jumped way too high instead of sitting back at the high slot, he kind lined up next to Kovalev, in his way. So who do you want taking the shot KOMi OR kOVY? anyway god forbid Saks goes scoreless in two games......ouch
This is already a non issue. Kovalev is a great player, he is working harder than he ever did in NY, he is putting up points, and remember, he has been asked to get used to completely new linemates!
Remember when he first came over? It took him a while to get used to the new players. He thrives when you have him with the same guys for a while so they can get used to each other. A lot of pure skill guys are like that. In 5 games, his line will be blazing. I guarantee that if we force a trade now we would get far less than his real value.
I can also guarantee that with guys like Carbonneau, Muller, and Gainey watching over this team, his attitude in the locker room will be good. There are no hated guys on this team, and we should not make one up just because we want some soap opera style contraversy.
Kovalev will get 30 goals and 80 points. He will end the season as a plus player (just) and will be a huge part of our playoff drive. Yeah, Ryder will score more than him, but no one on this board will call for him to be traded at the end of the year unless you think with all his talent 30 goals is just unacceptable. But if you think that, would you really rather trade him for a hard worker who will get 10? Remember, the last time someone forced a trade with him, all they got was Balej.
Ando wrote: ..and, as anyone can plainly see, at least Saku always trys hards - what is Kovy's excuse???
I believe the Apocalypse is upon us. Ando gives Koivu credit, Barry leaves in a huff, I'm looking out for four horsemen (and I'm not referring to Notre Dame football).

Good post! Patience, patience...I have faith too that the dressing room is much better already than it was last year.
Kovalev needs to pick it up and he knows that. Last year I bitched about Koivu because I felt he was not performing. But to his credit, he has turned it around..so far. Credit to And-O for recognizing this. Having said that, I still say that although Kovalev and Samsonov need to pick it up, it is not all their fault. The center position could not be addressed in the off season and Pleks is a band aid solution on that line.

Absoloutely...
I like Plek, but not as a number two center. More a depth "great" third line center. I am amazed that center void was not filled by Gainey in the off season. Truly amazed.
But I still think Kovalev is floating a bit too much. It is early so let's be patient....let's be quite on the Kovalev issue for 5-6 more games.
