Peter Forsberg raised Ken Hitch****'s blood pressure recently when he refused to take part in the Shootout against Atlanta. He said he did not have enough sticks. Eventually, he had to take part but failed to score and Marian Hossa put an end to the game. Carbonneau let it be known that if one of the Habs refused to take part in a shootout, he would never get the opportunity to refuse a second time.
Forsberg created the first Flyers controversy of the season. He initially declined to shoot and had to be coaxed from the bench.
The Flyers' captain said his sticks were either broken or wobbly, that he felt there were better shooters than himself, and that he was lacking confidence.
Hitch**** gave a terse reply after the game when asked why Forsberg did not come up until the 11th overall shooter (the sixth Flyer).
"He didn't want to shoot," the coach said.
Carbo has decided who he will play in net in Philly, but he has not announced it yet. Do not be surprised to see Abby, with Huet playing at home in the season opener against the Sens. Huet was very successful against the Sens last season , and Carbo wants him fresh for that game.
Wasn't Mathieu Dandenaeult day at practice yesterday. He was seeing stars for a few minutes after being hit on the bridge of his nose accidently by Chris Higgins. He left the ice but returned shortly thereafter to be struck in the hand by a Koivu shot.
Simon Gange(Philly Flyers) is predicting the Habs make the playoffs. He said "They made some good changes on defense, and they have alot of offensive speed. Those guys know how to skate. They should make the playoffs, especially if Cristobal Huet plays like he did last season."
Could you just imagine the unroar if Koivu,Sundin,Alfredson,Ignila, Smith or Naslund refused to take part in the shoot out. Way to go Forsberg, Maybe it's time for you to retire.
Pierre McGuire yesterday clarified the event yesterday on radio here in Montreal. It wasn't what everyone thought.
Pierre spoke with Forsberg and he told Pierre that Lunkvist on NYR (also Swede like Forsberg and played with Forsberg on Swedish team) knows Forsberg's 'move' on the shootout and since Forsberg was not using his usual stick, he told Hitch**** that he doesn't think it would be a good idea to go against Lunkvist since he knew Forsberg's patterned move. That's the reason why Forsberg didn't want to shoot. (He ended up shooting anyways, but much later in the shootout.)
