I watched Buffalo in their first game. They remind me of the Habs years ago the way they were skating. They are a fast club. I am predicting Habs 3-2
They have four lines that can fly!
A couple ways to defend against speed is to play the trap but that's difficult now a days. The other way is to match it. The Habs have to skate really hard both ways to have a chance. Our D have to get the puck out of our end as quick as possible. If they don't have a pass then fire it off the boards. Our forwards have to attack their net with speed and hope to draw penalties. Shoot from everywhere while we have a forward screening Miller and hope for rebounds. Also try to stop their break out deep in their nuetral zone to limit their speed. Clog up the passing lanes also.
BUFFALO – The Canadiens open up their 89th NHL season tonight as they visit the Buffalo Sabres, who will be playing their first home contest. The Sabres spoiled the Hurricanes’ Stanley Cup celebrations Wednesday night with a win in Raleigh.
Four firsts: After several months of waiting, Guy Carbonneau will officially make his debut as the 28th head coach in Canadiens history tonight when the puck drops at 7:30 pm. He won’t be the only one making a debut, as four players will be wearing the Habs jersey for the first time on opening night. Sergei Samsonov, Mike Johnson and Janne Niinimaa are familiar with season openers, with 1793 NHL games played between them. On the other end there’s rookie Guillaume Latendresse, who will introduce himself to the NHL. In seven preseason games, the 19-year-old recorded three goals and two assists.
Sweet smell of spring…in October: With an opening night win over the Bruins in 2005-06, the Canadiens notched their 47th franchise victory in the first game of the regular season. The wins have had some significance over the years in the form of a playoff appearance. On 43 occasions when the club has won their season opener, Montreal has made it to the postseason the following spring.
Super 600: When Craig Rivet laces up his skates tonight, he’ll be getting ready to hit the ice in his 600th game with the Canadiens (and in the NHL). He becomes the 38th player in franchise history to reach the mark. Rivet, who made his NHL debut on April 15, 1995 against the Bruins, has 33 goals and 102 assists in his career to date.
I love it when a great PK completely energizes a team. Prime example was the third goal. Habs kill a 5-3 and a double-minor and are full steam ahead from there.
The Koivu line looks GREAT tonight. I hope they can keep the form all season.

That line is awesome - one goal each. Winning faceoffs has been a big story tonight so far as well (as well as that PK for 1.5 minutes 5-on-3, of course).
