Bob drafts Maxwell and White (both centres)...then signs Baines, Aubin, Grabovski (all centres)...and gives Locke, Lapierre, Urquhart and Chipchura LONNNNGGGG looks!

...and y'er telling And-o that Bob didn't plan to unload Riblet all along?!?!?!!?

KUDOS to Bob for keeping his move (once again) under the radar!!!

...THIS MOVE WAS PLANNED!!!

The Habs HAVE depth at Centre...THE PROBLEM REMAINS THAT THEY NEED A NUMBER ONE CENTRE!!!

C'mon gang!!!  Like it or not...THAT is/was/will be the problem going forward!

I think our problem is Gainey wont get off of Dallas. Im osrry but im guessing a large amount of our habs aquisitions over the past year have been from dallas. Correct me if im wrong

Audette

Downey

Carbo

niinima

im sure i could be missing one. But really, BOB find ANOTHER trading partner!!! Dallas doesnt exactly have the best things to offer and im sorry but personally i think we could have got BETTER for Ribs....

Johab, I think Andre Savard traded for Donald Audette. The way I remember it, Gainey traded away Audette from Dallas, came to Montreal and after half a season got rid of him again (by buying him out).

Johab, I thought the same thing when I heard this trade, in all the years that BG has been in the league, has he only got to know the teams that his is involved with?  Yes, he traded for Huet, but everyone knows that the trade was primarilly for Bonk.  Hell, it cost CJ his job for trying to play Huet.

I don't think Ribeiro would have garnered too much more than a vbeteran d-man.  He has been underachieving for quite some time now, where even BG took a shot at him.  His value is not high.  And I am one of the guys that really thought this was going to be his (Ribeiro) year.

Besides, now Traverse has his defensive partner now.

And-O- your painting of Gainey as a Picasso is almaost pathetic. He signed Ribs to a 1.9 MILLION deal!!!!! Is that the move of a GM who is hoping to unload a player!?!???! Give me a huge and colossal break! If Gainey had any intentions of trading Ribs no way does he give him 2 million bucks which makes him that much harder to dump! Just like Theo, he overpaid substantially to sign him and was lucky enough to find one of his old golfing buddies to take him off his hands. Nothing more and nothing less.

1.9 Million is what Ribs would have got in arbitration, and this way he saved animosity so it didn't look like his hand was being forced. That gives him more leverage. This is exactly what he would have done if he was planning on trading him. Also, Gainey said that Dallas had been interested for months, so he would have known damn well what they were willing to take in terms of Ribs' salary.

I don't quite buy that this year's draft had enything to do with Ribs going away, since 2 centres isn't a huge amount, but it certainly could have influenced trying to get Grabo over here (but he wanted to come anyway) and giving Locke, Lapierre, and Chip such long looks once Grabo got injured.

Barry and And-o will have to agree to disagree on this one!

This move, as And-o sees it, did little (or nothing) to take away from the Habs in terms of a centre (since the Habs have about 3 little Riblets...without the 'gangsta' attitude).  Plus, we add a d-man who can tally some points on the PP.

...this was planned Barry!  Ribs was paid too much...but many GM's are looking for 'known costs' and AT LEAST Ribs deal enables that!  He ain't going anywhere...and neither are his 'costs'.  And...don't discount how much Ribs WILL FLOURISH with a change of scenery!!!

Very true, and according to tsn.ca, Dallas is looking to put Ribs on a second line with Lindros and Morrow. Having him with two finishers will be perfect for his style of play so expect a huge season out of him (depending of course on who they replace Lindros with after he gets injured).

JohnM snickers...but Ribs needed a change of scenery...he has been working really hard...he is just entering the prime years of his career...and Dallas has several rugged wingers that would make And-o look like an effective NHL player!!!

...Dallas didn't get hosed!!!  They gave away someone who didn't want to be there...for someone who is itching to improve himself!!!

(and many Hab fans could end-up with egg on the face...including And-o...when it comes to Ribs!)
