Does anyone know what is happening with Emelin? Of our defensive prospects who are about ready skill and development wise for the NHL, he is the most highly regarded, but it seems like he is still over in Russia. Is he ever planning on coming over? I'm curious if we will ever see him in a Canadians uniform.

His father is the coach of his russian team, so i doubt he will be leaving any time soon. But i could be wrong, if i recall Koivu's dad was his coach in Finland as well.

If I recall correctly

He was available to be brought over this summer as he had no contract in the Russian league.  Gainey tried to sign him to a two-way deal (different money for playing in the AHL or NHL) and Emelin instead decided to take a bigger guarantee playing for his russian league team.  Less money then the NHL half of his offer, but more than the AHL half.  Gainey did not guarantee him a spot on the NHL team.

His new contract in Russia is for 2 years.  Our next chance to bring him over would be next summer, but would require either a transfer aggreement being in place with the Russian league, negotiations between Montreal and his team, or Emelin pulling a Malkin.
