Bob's strategy for taking Traverse off waivers...
Permalink Closed

...is the same as an ancient Chinese proverb!

"Make big noise in North - attack from South"

Patrick Traverse (as much as And-o HATES this acquisition) is a "known commodity" to the Habs.  He seems to accept his role as a fringe player...and he always seemed to be happy playing in Montreal.

KEEP THE FAITH IN BOB GAINEY!  Think of this as Bill Gates acquiring some trashy little anti-virus software company!  Sure it looks pretty ugly right now - but couple that together with MicroSoft technology (capital, development dollars) and you might just be surprised!!!

...And-o has to give one thing to Bob - THAT move makes one heckuva distraction!!!

Sorry And-O I do not buy it. Traverse stunk when he was with Montreal and has only played ONE NHL game since he left. Which indicates every other NHL team on the face of the planet earth thinks he stinks as well. The Dallas connection continues. I am trying to put a positive spin on it and will put my faith in Gainey. But listening to the sports talk shows today the collective reaction was Whaatttttt???

Memo to BG and Carbo..ENOUGH of the Dallas thing already!!!! THANK GAWD Tie Domi did not play for Dallas or his ugly mug would be in a habs uniform. Let ot go already boys..Dallas was then..this is now. Everyone, and I mean EVERYONE on this board partied the day we got rid of that bum, including you And-O.

...hey Barry33!  Don't forget just how thin the blueline really is - YIKES!

And-o hopes (as does every Hab fan) that this guy is given a direct flight to Hamilton!

I think we all think that Traverse is a bum, but Ando proveides the first actual plus to signing him that I have seen on this board or elsewhere. He is one of the few players who will work hard (to his very limited potential) and not cause any locker room fuss when he is sent down (either because a rookie beats him out... cross your fingers, or injured players come back).

Still think it was a bad move, but at least there is a sliver of logic... plus it's not like anything else was available.

Like you And-O i think there was a strategy behind getting Traverse. I think Patrick is going to fit in the "new" NHL perfectly. I'm sure Gary Bettmen is talking to Gainey right now telling him how getting Traverse was a wise move with the "new" style of play. Patrick Traverse helps bring more goal scoring to the NHL. Mind you it may be for the other team.

Funniest comment on Traverse signing yet.

Actually Gainey out-played Traverse on this one. Traverse signed with the Ducks this past summer, thinking he would go to their farm team in Worchester. Worchester is 15 minutes away from his home. Traverse is married to an American lady from Massachusetts.

A few years back when Mtl was trying to sign Donald Audette as a free agent - Audette was asking for more money to go to Mtl which Mtl would not give to him so he signed for less money in Dallas but Mtl turned around and traded for him and got him for Dallas money instead of Mtl money although things did not turn out too well with the serious injury Audette got to his arm/wrist.....

Actually, Father, the Ducks' farm team is in Portland, Maine. But that's still within two hours of Worcester.

Apparently Traverse doesn't know his way around either on or off the ice!

Tks Desi- I stand corrected, got that info from the news article. Was Worchester their home at one time?

I'm not sure, Father. Two years ago, their farm team was in Cincinnatti, I think. But starting last year, the Portland Pirates became Anaheim's AHL farm team. I'm not sure why -- it's a long way from Maine to California!
