At first I had to check my Calender to see if it was April 1st...but noooooo...it is not an April Fools joke!!! Traverse?  Direct from the Iowa Stars hockey hotbed. Bob Gainey has the rogaine gone to your bain cells?!??!?


Any other Dallas cast offs you want to pick up Bobby? Downey, Traverse. Anyone who felt that our defence was not as thin as desperate as we said it was need only look at this signing. Wait Bob!! I hear Serge Savard is considering a comeback!! Sign him!!!

Why don't we look around for Peter Popovic instead? He's probably relaxing in (Sweden?), getting a nice gut, hanging with the grandkids. But he'd be a better defensive player than Traverse!

Wow... This guy is easily the worst defenceman we have had in a very long time. He is not NHL quality. I really hope he gets pushed out of the way by a young guy. This also means that the trade theory seems to be disproven. If Gainey thought there was something available then he would have taken it instead of signing this piece of deadwood.

Ok, i'd rather see the young guys get a chance to play, than picking up a player like Traverse to help out on D. Are the young players that bad or is it simply a case of cap room and the NHL RED TAPE we're up against. Please, someone tell me?

Awesome Heet! We should have a party, 'cause Brad Pitt and Johnny Depp are due to arrive to cook me dinner at around 5. Limo is picking me up at the crazy-house at 4:30...and when I get home I have been told that Christopher Reeves is going to be cleaning my pool (no disrespect intended - I am a horse gal).

I was once under the firm belief that Bob Gainey was a hockey genius, and I could pretty much justify every decision he made. I find myself incapable here. was Traverse actually the best the waiver wire had to offer? Does anyone think he is better than an average AHLer? Can anyone say anything good about this whatsoever?


I'm stumped and disappointed.


And I just found out that Eva Longoria is cheating on me.

 Patrick Reverse is coming back! One has to ask...Are we not going in reverse with this signing?


 Give your head a shake Gainey and leave the Dallas throw aways alone!


 Much rather watch Benoit and O'bryn play than this guy.


 How many solid D-man has changed teams in the last season? Gainey continues to miss the boat. Remember how badly we needed a shake up during last season and we thought he would pull off a dousy and we end up with Downey? This is no different.

For the most part I have thought Gainey has had a coherent plan as to how to build the Habs into a contender. The acquisition of Traverse is impossible to defend. certainly one of the worst players the Habs have had in uniform in the last decade. Even if Traverse is a depth move and will only see time playing in the AHL, it is a waste of time and money.


There are a couple of teams out there, such as Calgary and LA that have some depth at defence and even a minor trade with those teams would yield a more competent and capable dman than Reverse. Hopefully Souray's injury is not serious. The Traverse signing sends chills down my spine and reminds me of that late '90's era when the organization did not seem to have a clue what it was doing.

In fairness, we haven't heard why Traverse was picked up.  Maybe Gainey has a reason, maybe... oh, forget it.

Man am I ever happy my old friend Claude does not have to coach THAT piece of wasted space!!!! He has little enough hair now. Wait...maybe Traverese is the piece to the puzzle to landing Gomez in a habs uniform and he will have to coach him anyway....then again..maybe that ticket with 6 numbers I bought last night has made me 20 million richer.

  The only reason this guy should put on a hockey helmet is to get on a short bus, he is by far the worst defenceman in the league I had a party last time he left now it's time for a wake.

I've said it before and after reading about Traverse being signed I'll say it again......... Gainey and Carbo should be making a serious push to sign Leetch. I don't know if we could sign him but it sure would be worth a shot.......
