The Senators and Habs are going to have to dress at a local gym and then bus to the rink for the game.
This should be one exciting day for the folks in the TRURO area. I'm just wondering if Lyle Carter who played for the California Golden Seals will be at the game.

Funny you should remember Lyle Carter (or was that part of the Ottawa Sun piece?). He was little known as a hockey player, although he did have a cup of tea in the NHL. But as a member of the Canadian fastball champions (1974 or so) Brookfield Elks (Brookfield is next to Truro), he was one of the best softball players in the country, if not the world.

I have his old hockey card somewhere. That old gear is hilarious. Amazing they could stop any shots at all!

I'm looking forward to the game tonight. At least I'll be dry, unlike the Stones concert Saturday night.

A few old Habs are in Truro too - Cournoyer, Houle, Gingras, etc.

I met Lyle years ago when my son played with the Truro Bearcats. Subsequently, Lyle's son came to the Ottawa area to try out for the Hull Olympics and stayed at my place. Lyle was actually drafted by the Canadiens prior to going to California. I have fond memories of this man. He treated my son so well when played for the Cats.

Another great example of 'What goes arouond comes around' - especially kindness!

Lyle Carter, althoug he can certainly walk around in anonymity, is in the NS Sports Hall of Fame and is well-known to local sports fans of my vintage. Imagine being a world-class softball player and NHL-calibre goalie at once!

Strange that you should say that. Lyle and I went to an exhibition game in Hull to watch his son and we weren't in the arena 5 minutes when someone who knew Lyle from years ago came up to get re-acquainted with him. It just goes to show what a small world we live in.
