I know Kovy and Sami are not showing good work ethic but there are other players on the team that seem to be short a step in the preseason as well. I am not one to put much weight into the pre-season - its time for them them to try to get in some game shape.
I would seriously think of putting koivu with kovy and sami - koivu has great work ethic and I think Kovy and Sami feel they should be on the number one line
Put Ribs with Ryder and Higgins- that is still a solid line or stick Chipchura or Begin there.
I think he may try it to see if he can get other lines to "click".... one good line just doesn't seem good enough right now.
I'm hopin' we're losin' because our other lines don't want to show up for the unimportant games... but when you're makin' millions.... they all should be important to them. However, if it is because the chemistry is weak the way the lines are... then mixin' it up might be worth a shot.

Am I the only one that looks at this possibility and sees this years Canadiens as woefully weak and understaffed? You put Koivu with those guys and you become essentially a one line team. All the other teams need to do i smake sure their checking line is out against these guys. Yep..Begin as our second line center. We are VERY deep at THAT position for sure.

We NEED to have two good lines. If Kovalev and Sammy can carry one line (with Ribeiro, Bonk, Pleks , whoever) then Koivu can carry the second (Higgins and Ryder seem like good choices).
Putting Koivu with Kovalev would be an admission that we can't put together two solid offensive lines.
