I would say that if we get 20-30 games into the season and they still are playing like this, they should be sent to Hamilton for reconditioning. I am sick and tired of over or high paid players screwing the team by collecting a big paycheck and not earning it. Sorry for the pissy attitude and I know its very early, but Im just pissed at these two right now
Kovalev and Samsonov did dick-all tonight. If the season was starting tomorrow, they would have a hard time proving to any coach that they deserved to wear the Habs Jersey. The Koivu/Higgins and Ryder line was working on all cyclinders tonight. They are the #1 line right now. The # 2 line would be Johnson/Latendresse/? followed by the Bonk line. Doubt very much that Kovalev had to shower after the game tonight.
Carey Price performed very well tonight. The Habs have no worries between the pipes.
got to agree with ya on these two, very lackluster and out of sync. They definately need to step up right out of the gate if we are gonna contend. On a great note koivu looks just fine and higgs looks primed to take the next step. Even more to my liking Bonk( yes i said Bonk!)looked good and showed some speed and creativity with the puck, i wanna be the first to request that he centre lats and johnson, just curious how that line would do!!!As a team we just need to FINISH BETTER!!!! chances are there just need to make the tap ins!!!!Oh and if you hadent guessed, for my money, Lats makes this team and kosi dont unless we decide we dont need both downey and murray either way Lats is playing with johnson and either bonk or pleks i think he earned a regular spot.
Too many other teams improved themselves like Boston, Rangers and even the Laffs that if Kovy and Sammy can't turn in on when it counts and keep it turned on through most of the season than we can kiss the playoffs goodbye! We're too thin up front to over-come their inconsistent lackluster play.

habscsi, what did you watch the game on? Bell Expressvu? It's not on any channel I get here in Halifax.
On a related note, will the games be on SRC (French CBC) every Saturday as usual this year? Anyone know?

I said it before. Carbo misseds his chance to shake these guys up with his "my lines are all set attitude". Why would kovy or sammy even try? THey have been assured that they will be playing together.

Good tonight: The Koivu line. Streit on offense. Lats, Johnson, Price.
Passing grade: Kost and Chip for lack of icetime (Chip needs some seasoning). Streit on defense, Souray overall, Rivet, Huet (because his defense didn't help that much-nothing to prove at this point before the season) Komi, Bonk (defense was good, but not enough offense still to my liking) Murray (unless he does something special during a game, he will always be here (sorta like Rivet on D, nothing wrong with that)
Failling grade: Kovy, Sammy, Benoit (not nhl material by far-effort was there) O'Byrne (again effort there-just not ready for the bigs yet, needs to learn pro game. Locke should have outshown his lacklustre linemates, he didn't (slow on the defensive recovery)
I know Kovy and Sammy are not going all out, but I hope they try harder come October.
I'd personally like to see Pleks on that second line with Kovy and Sammy. At least, this way, we'd have a hard worker on that line who is responsible defensively. He doesn't need to handle the puck to be effective, and he excels at puck pursuit. I don't know where that leaves Ribs, because he doesn't belong on the third line.

Man, how can Locke get a failing grade? He showed good hustle but only got the puck when he got it himself. I can't recall him getting one pass from Kovalev or Samsonov.
