MONTREAL (CP) - Former Montreal Canadiens great Serge Savard has had his driver's licence suspended for one year because of impaired driving in 2004.
Savard will also have to pay a fine of $950 after an agreement between his lawyer, Michel Massicotte, and the Crown.
Savard, who played 14 seasons with the Habs in the 1960s and 1970s before eventually becoming general manager, was arrested in September 2004.
Massicotte says Savard will still be able to travel to the United States even though he has a criminal record.
The native of Landrienne, Que., won eight Stanley Cup championships as a player and two more as general manager.
Savard's court appearance today came one day after the Canadiens announced plans to retire his No. 18 jersey on Nov. 18.
