I agree. Perez may be a one dimensional speedster. Not much else to offer.

Hey Mulsey...not certain who pounced on you...but Perezhogin reminds And-o more of a slightly more motivated Kovalenko (just for his ability to dangle and flash & dash while showing potential to 'slog' it in the corners).

...the issue is (and will be) can Carbo/Gainey light a fire under this kid!!!

Seriously though...And-o feels that if...IF...this kid played to his full potential...25-35 annual goals could be in his future! The kid can move!!!

as i recall he played well last year when zednik went down , he played with kovy and saks. he had a point a game and then they dropped him to the 4th line for the rest of the year . he played well in the playoffs in limited action . as for his baseball swing , would you rather be talking about staffords swing , if i was perez and someone swings a stick at me i would do the same thing . eye for an eye.

Anyone notice a trend? Play with Koivu...and you do well. Happened last night with Latendresse as well.

Playing more provides the opportunity to perform well PERIOD

...and the reward for showing promise/potential is more icetime (which happens to occur on one of the top lines)...not necessarily playing with someone in particular, although certainly playing with Kovy and Koivu wouldn't hurt (funny though how you credit only Saku for Perez's showing???)!!!

(the only trend And-o notices is the one where Mulsey can somehow continually equate Saku to the likes of Sakic, Gretz, Mess, Lemieux, Yzerman, etc... NOT EVEN CLOSE...and REALLY scary!!! Illusions of grandure!!!)

Funny how I listened to the entire game tonight, Plenc was the star and who does he play with? Perhaps he deserves that opportunity to fill a spot between Kovalev and Sammy to see what he can do........after all, Ribs has had plenty of those opportunities and can't seem to handle the pressure. Carbo calls it as he sees it, he was critical of Prez after the first game, and he said the line that had the most problems in game 2 was the Ribeiro line.

I can see the parallel except I feel Petrov had the desire but not the body or the nasty streak. Whereas Perez is pretty strong on his skates and plays with an edge (sometimes). I too would like to see some consistency, because the potential is definitely there.

The habs have a young team and I have resolved myself to the fact that, if we are going to go with a youth movement, we will need to show patience and realize that there will be alot of inconsistency with kids. That is the one thing that experience brings..consistency.

Many posters here were ragging on my old buddy CJ when he was not playing Perez much last year.

Well it did seem kind of unjust since Perez was playing with confidence, while Bonk and Ribeiro were sucking big-time but got to keep playing. Perez never really recovered from that setback last year.

Why can't we be patient with these guys. They can't all be stars from the first game they play. Those are actually pretty rare. If we'd had been a little more patient with John LeClair, maybe we wouldn't gone through those dark years a few years back. I remember Vancouver given up on Cam Neely and the guy was a major star when he left. Vancouver was so afraid of being burned twice, they kept Jim Sandlak forever even though he remained a utility player for the rest of his career. Now what if the Habs had given up on Guy. His first 3 years were ok, but not star material.

Now, I'm no comparing Perez to any of those guys, his career numbers may approach Sandlak's more than anyone elses, but we need to wait it out a bit and see just how good he can be. He is still young and still has time to mature. And maturity in the NHL brings consistency.

Komisarek has already showed some signs of repaying our patience. Too bad we didn't take the same approach with Beauchemin. (Hainsey I'm not so sure about)

Plekanec, Higgins, Perezhogin, Murray, O'byrne, Fischer, Chipchura, Latendresse, the Kostitsyns, Price and Halak...seems like a nucleus with some serious potential to me.

The only problem I have with Perez is that we alreayd have too many of that type of player..small, lacking grit, and not willing to get their nose dirty.

Well Perez may not be to physical, but he does throw some hits. Just ask Keith Primeau. Although the hit was not as viscious as the results were. But one season does not make a career. No one has stolen his job yet. He is skilled and we should see more of that skill this year. Give him time. If he doesn't do anything, Carbo will be quick to bench him. The kind of player he was, I really don't think he'll accept half efforts too long.
