A radio interview with Koivu at the habs golf tournament states he has not seen a Doctor since last June in Montreal and has been skating a few weeks now with no contact ( I only caught a piece of the interview). He says he will be seeing a Dr in Montreal this week. Feels fine but still has some peripheral vision problems and says that the proof of his health will be when he begins to scrimmage and take part in contact drills. An exact quote "I am not sure if I will be the same player or not. Time will tell" . "I will be getting more tests done next week and I will be hoping for the best" "I have not seen a Dr. Since I left Montreal in June" I have a question..why the hell has he not seen a Doc since June? His interview certainly did not sound like a ringing endrosement of his health.!!

I have said it all along that I feel that his career may be like Alex Trebec..in "Jeopardy". You need good peripheral vision to play hockey so you can make the pass to the guy you see out of the corner of your eye, or to see the guy trying to hit you. Eye injuries are alot like concussions. They can haunt you forever and one good hit can end it.

But And-o said he was going to be ok???? I don't understand.
Forget these useless reports Barry, we already know from And-o that he is fine and ready to go. Useless media sources and quotes...
John, sarcasm aside, I would love to call it a useless source. But it was Saks' voice himself on the Team 990 today at the habs golf tournament. As I said, far from a ringing endoresement of a guy chomping at the bit to get playing.

So what could happend here? If... IF... he can't play, his salary doesn't count against the cap right? (or am I wrong?)
Could Gainey be waitin' to see how Koivu fairs before pickin' up another forward?
I am not sure at this point who it would be MC. At this stage it will have to be a big center through a TRADE as all the free agents are gone. If BG wants a center he will have to give up some players to get him. Unfortunately it is no longer a simple case of cap space or not.

Ah yes, this camp will be all about Saku Koivu again (or is that still?)!
Is there nobody here that finds it just a little odd that Saku hasn't been visiting his doctor(s) periodically these past few months?!?!?!?
Good job Saks!!! Thanks a million...er umm 4.75 million actually...for staying on top of this...and for not leaving the team in a real pickle!
Anyone else feel that Saku Koivu is the human equivalent of the American Space Shuttle??? As in, a overpriced white elephant with way too many glitches, a track record of tragedy/disaster and something that has just plain not lived up to it's original hype/intentions!!! But they are both really, really great lightening rods!!! Maybe the 'C' stands for 'Commander' in Saku's case!
...time for Saku to either zip-it and play...or cutbait and move-on...so the Habs can!!!
So tired of this guy's drama!!! (Either option is just fine with And-o!!!)
no i believe its only you and-o , i agree he should have been seeing a doctor routinly, but maybe there was no need to , he was progressing , everything was feeling fine , no need to go to the doctor and get the everything is progressing as expected speach.
Oh don't you worry Johnny...it's still going to be all about Saku 'the man' Koivu!
...it's too bad to...cause the Habs really need some stable leadership right now to ensure that young guys like Higgins, Pleks, Perez, Chipper, etc... develop properly!!!
Here is hoping that Saku makes his decision (because this is his decision) sooner versus later!!!
Between Rivet, Begin and Souray...the Habs can find a capable replacement to foster along the next generation of leaders.
whoa did i just enter the barry and ando doctors thread. Have any of you two ever been injured? Since when do the doctors of a world class athelete leave it up to the patient to schedule appointments. Cmon guys you got to be smarter than that!!!!Obviously the doctors have left it to time to heal his eye and when dealing with an athelete making 4.75 million/yr you can bet they explored evey option of treatment.I know we are all passionate about our team but common sence still applies here too.If saks cant play i dont see the conspiricy theory attitude that he and Gainey purposely tried to disable the team. Both are under no obligation to keep us informed of status, trade talks, contract talks or free agent talks so lets not assume silence means they did nothing.
On another note please barry and ando name me the game changing centre who bob was supposed to go get that was available cause i didnt see one? Even if there had been did it guarentee success for the teams that had one cause i see the two teams that made the final ,and their first line centre's were Horcoff and stall. Now Stall came into his own last year but starting the year there were only expectations with him and nothing proven and Horcoff well he had a solid year but im sure your not putting him in the top 5 centres catagory. Unless developed from within the ahl ranks we wont attract a stud centre until the rest of the team is solid so we have to build from the ground up not the top down. We made a few moves but with a price limit now i think GM's are still on a learning curve and just like in Fantsy leagues its not only how much you spend but at what positions is it most benificial to pay big.But i digress lets hope saks has full vision recovery and then BG can get something done to make us better. Either way we will all be on the edge of our seats 82+ times this year and i guarentee all of our expectations will not be met but some will be exceeded, hey if Saks and Kovy have 50 pts each and we win the cup im happy. If they have 100+ pts each, Carbo wins coach of the year,Chipchura comes in and wins rookie of the year and Higgens and Ryder both score 40 goals and we lose in overtime of game 7 in the finals im pissed and looking foreward to the next year so it is all relevent to success in the W/L column and even the Doctors cant guarentee us wins.
habscsi- I am not dumb eneough to even imply that Koivu or Gainey tried to "purposely disable the club". Additionally, I have stated all along that Gainey tried to get a center but failed. I am not saying he did not try. His efforts to land both Arnott and Shanahan are well documented. And those are the only 2 that we know about. I am sure there are more. But the problem at center is not something that suddenly materialized this year. It has been a problem for many, many years. The Canadiens, Gainey included, Svard and Houle before him, have been guilty of putting all of their center eggs in a very fragile Koivu basket. And now we are about to pay the price. Is it Koivu's fault he has been plagued by knee injuries, cancer and now a bad eye? Duhhhh..of course not. But it is what it is. But as habs fans we have every right to be disappointed by the prospect of once again limping into a new season woefully undermanned at a key position. But then again..wait until next year.
