Was looking at some stats from the last season, and found a stat that had the most 'take-aways'. Meaning, how many times a player stole the puck from another player. Placing third in the league was Sheldon Souray with 83 trailing only Rob Blake (89) and John Madden (84), Markov in 4th with 81. Koivu with 73 tied Stu barnes and Jason Blake for 10th. Craig Rivet with 70 tied for 13th with Jason Ward, Henrik Zetterberg. Francis Bouillion tied Alex Ovechkin and Joe Sakic with 69 each for 17th place.
Not bad I would say, now if they can convert those chances into goals...just imagine!!
Not sure that having a lot of players high up on this list is a really good thing. What it does suggest is that the habs often play without the puck ... either by losing faceoffs or losing out on loose pucks...
I'd rather have the habs control the puck more, and not have to "take away" so much

I agree Nietche..that stat can be either a "glass half full or half empty" type thing. Nonetheless glad to see we have players at the top of the league at something.

no the only have on the top twenty list og giveaways is Souray with 85 at the number 15th spot, with people like ovechkin (88), thornton (102), pronger (110), Zubov (103), Spezza (93) Kovalchuk (127) and a few other guys way ahead in giveaways.
As for Barry and nietche's comments....I dunno how this stat can be a bad thing. No team can control the puck 100% of the time, it does not mean that we don't have the puck very often, what it does mean is that we are a very good team to take the puck away from the opposition, and if anything we have the puck very often!! They ONLY problem I would see with this stat is that we cannot convert these take aways into more goals. But definately not a stat that says we are not in control of the puck the majority of the time.
