Saku Koivu is optimistic he'll be ready to play in time for the start of the NHL season.
The Montreal Canadiens captain has been skating regularly now for the last three weeks after recovering from surgery to repair a torn retina in his left eye.
While things have been going well on the ice, Koivu acknowledges there is always the possibility of suffering further injury to his eye.
"When I look in a straight line, everything is fine," he tells La Presse. "But when I look side-to-side... it's a bit of a problem."
Koivu was struck in the eye by an errant high stick from Justin Williams during Game 3 of the Habs first round playoff series against Carolina.
"When I look in a straight line, everything is fine," he tells La Presse. "But when I look side-to-side... it's a bit of a problem."
I have a bad feeling and think this may be the of the end of Koivu's career.....Thanks alot Justin....you f*cking douchbag....I'm sure your at home having a good laugh for yourself.........but remember this you dirty a$$ son of a bi*ch!!! what goes around, come around and I can't wait to see you get yours.
Sorry for the rant guys but I'm really bitter towards Justin Williams and the dumb a$$ refs that called the game.

I believe in Karma.... & it's a b!tch. It always comes back 10 fold. Bushwacker Williams will get what he deserves, hopefully it'll be a Hab that does it.
I still maintain that it was a terrible injury and givin that Saks wears a face shield...a freak one also! That play happened so quickly that you can't prove that it was intentional but we would sure like to.

If this were an isolated case, I would completely agree with you. How many high sticking penalties did he take during that series alone? I'm pretty sure that there were at least two others after he got Koivu. I don't believe for one second that he got Koivu's eye intentionally, but he is obviously a careless player that learned absolutely nothing from nearly (or possibly) ending another player's career.

Agreed, he's careless with his stick..kind of like Glen Anderson was. Also see some similarities in the skill department. Have to admit, he's a good player that will probably learn the hard way that the stick is not a weapon.
...oh no doubt training camp will be all about Saku again (or is that still)!
Geez, And-o wonders why this team can't solidify a spot amongst the league's perrenial top 8 contenders with such rugged/reliable/rock-solid "leadership"?
How much longer before Chipper and/or Higgins will be ready to replace this human soap-opera anyways??? (And-o is indifferent to his outcome at this point)
...hey Sak-who! Either you will or will not be ready to go!!!? Enough with the $4.75 MILLION DOLLAR "hokey pokey"! Can you say "sandbagger"???

You are the most repetative person on this board.... do you not get enough attention at home??lol
A Center with lack of peripheral vision..that is not a good thing. Like Spidey, I think this may be the end of his career. As I said before..even if he CAN play, one good hit and the eye is out of commission permanently.

Which brings up a new question.... if, IF he finds out he's unable to play... who'll wear the "C"?
