According to rds.ca and to Mix 99,7 FM JP Dumont priority is to play in Montreal.
From Mix 99.7 Fm : Dumont's agent called Bob Gainey and offer a discount price (less than the arbitration award) for a 3 years contract.
Koivu status is what making the Habs listening. Next report on the eye injury of Koivu will determine exactly when he will comeback. Speculation is that he will miss at least the first 20 games.
Caps space :
At 2.2M Ryder could be the odd man out... but he shoot right.
Expect Radek Bonk to be ship out of town if Dumont sign with the Habs. Bonk salary is 2.4M and Washington seem interested in the past. David Aebiesher could be trade but expect Gainey to wait to see if Huet is really the same goalie than last year.
it would be good especially since someoen is actually willing to take less $ to play in MTL. Most players seem to think they'll catch cooties o it's a nice change...if true
not going to happen , as heet pointed out in another post he has to sign for better than 80% of the arbitrators award or buffalo has a right to match and keep him . so we'd have to offer him at least 2.33 mil. for that money id rather keep ryder.
no i believe that was connely , dumont missed alot last year with strained abdominal muscles . but he has never played a full season and never had more than 53 points and is a career -32 . so ill pass on him if it means we get rid of ryder , ribs yes , ryder no.

What if it meant selling off Bonk? I'd go for that one. I don't know the reasons for Dumont's fragility, but his 40 points in 52 games last year wasn't too bad.

well bonk would be my pick to go but unless someone takes him i think he's here to stay . i dont think bob want to send him to the minors and have to tell the boss , yes we still have to pay him 2.4 to play in the minors , but he did it with czerkawski and dykhuis so anything is possible . but then what do we do with perez put him on the 4th with begin and murry , that does nothing for him . not to mention there is no room for the rookie who will make the team .
If we sign Dumont, I think Bonk would have to go, but sending him to the minors doesn't take his salary off of our cap... just ask Jersey. Also, where would he go? I have heard mixed interest from Washington, but that is all. We would also need to trade a winger and I think that would mean Perez since he and Dumont are both lefties.
habtastic , by sending bonk to the minors he would be off the cap but still be paid his full salary , where jersey got into trouble is year 2 , you see they signed malahov and mogilny to 2 year contracts after the age of 35 , so last year they were off the cap but this year they are back on the cap no matter where or if they play.
I dont understand why everyone is calling for Bonk to go. He plays CENTER, he takes FACEOFFS. C'mon Habs fans, I thought we were better than that. The big name doesn't always mean a better team.
I still want Dumont...Just not at the expense of a C, we can't afford it.

Bonk makes 2.4 million a year to be a fourth line center! Exactly what does he contribute, his offensive capabilities have diminished to a point that they are non existent. Despite the fact that he is 6 foot 3 he plays soft. Granted over the final 25 games or so he did become an effective penalty killer and his play picked up, benefiting from playing along side two gritty players in Begin and Murray. But to repeat, he is a fourth line center, Maxim Lapierre could probably contribute as much as Bonk if the team was really pressed.
Unless Bonk dramatically picks up his play, this will be his final season with the Habs. Chances are Gainey would have already traded him if his contract was substantially smaller. Even with the additions of Samsanov and Johnson the Habs are still an offensively challenged team, adding Dumont if it could work financially would be a great addition, and deleting Bonk would be an addition by subtraction.
Basically, Dumont wants to make a decision within the next few days as to where he will play. He has had interest from about 10 teams, but no offer from Montreal(sounds like he is really working the media in an attempt to pressure the Has to sign him lol). He has several offers from other teams. A decision will be made in the next 48hrs.
