How many members here actually play/have played some sort of league hockey in their life and what position. I personally have been a goalie all my life and played through nation and junior A and B up until my knee injury 2 years ago. I havent played goalie since but have taken up center instead but i dont play in a real league anymore. Just a beer league with a bunch of old timers and a few buds of mine. Still fun and we poke fun at each other about our age difference and all. What else do we have here?

It's funny you ask this. I was just thinking of posting the same question...

I ended my huge career at age of 10(if I remember right). Why? I was no good at hockey and it was so expensive hobby at that time. I did try again, I played 2 years in Division 8(sounds better than beer league) I was winger and still sucked

Bow-legged, can't skate well or long, but I was a pretty good street goalie! Well, except for my 5-hole... bow-legged and all... :)

Well Power, at least you are admitting it, and that is when the healing begins. :)

I have played all my life and have always been a goalie..not by choice. I remember showing up to practice when I was 5 and the coach watching me skate and saying.. "you know son, I think GOAL is the position for you".  I played AAA through minor hockey then 5 years of University hockey (Ya I know..5 year plan) then played 3 years of senior AAA hockey. Have been playing oldtimers for quite a few years now (the only reason I play is for the beer in the dressing room after). Not sure how many more years I will play as the beer gut is at the stage I almost will need someone to tie my skates.

I now focus my energies on coaching kids and watching my son play. I have coached bantam AAA for 3 years now.

I played in a house league as a kid, intramural in university, and the local CA Gentlemen's League for 18 years, finally hanging them up at age 45.

Right-winger all the way.  One of the highlights of my life was the night I popped six goals in the CA league.  That was an anomaly; one entire year I scored one goal.  Consistency was not my long suit.

Barry, BTW you're being a bit modest - I know you had a cup of coffee in the minor pros.

Well I spent my entire career(short lived as it was) between the pipes as well. If I recall correctly, I only got to play about 3 games indoors with the remaining games on an outdoor rinks. My love of the game was overtaken by my eternal passion for basketball, so I had to make a choice and the warm gym won out. I no longer had to look thru a plexi-glass mask that was always fogged up.

My son then decided one day that he wanted to be a goalie(the fool that he was), so out came the pics of me wearing my St. Patty's jersey with a tuque on under that stupid looking mask. That clinched it for him and he was determined to show the old man up. He took it from there and I was forced to follow him all over this country and others as he worked his way thru the ranks playing major junior/university and good old senior hockey in Quebec where he eventually saw the light and packed his competitive juices away this past year.

I must say, I credit myself for his abilities. I recall taking him to the basement, tieing him to a chair and firing tennis balls at him. I told him if he flinched at any of my shots, his days as a goalie would be short-lived.

i was a perenial house leaguer from age 5 to 16. got back into it in 1996 at 31, and still play once a week pickup at 44. I'm the guy that brings the beer, so I guess that makes me the most valuable player.
we are playing summer hockey in Bracebridge, Shane Corson has the ice rented after us, wonder if he's trying a comeback

Played youth hockey (what we call "select" in these parts) until 14.  Played 3 years of junior for a regional team (town did not have a high school team because of budget).  Then went on and played Div II college hockey in Rhode Island.  When I began my "career" skates had those little plastic plugs screwed into the back of each blade.  I still play today, at 46, against guys less than half my age.  Today I wear Easton Air's, two sizes smaller than my shoe size, and lighter than a pair of bedroom slippers.  My current skates cost more than my entire head-to-toe gear cost back in 1985.  Also head coaching my 11 year old's Pee Wee team, which is 1000% more stress inducing than any league I ever played in.

And-o only played organized hockey until the age of 14!

Other sports and activities took over during high school years…then off to university…then off to married/working life in an office (which all did wonders for the weight…peeking at 239lbs)!

And-o sees no point in ‘beer league’ comebacks, although now that And-o is back to his age 14 playing weight (how many of you can HONESTLY say that???) of 169lbs…perhaps one day…although, at 35 years of age, ‘Father Time’ is against And-o!

…and NO, I have no pictures to share at this time MC Girl and Ripple…although And-o bets that this newly added tidbit is just KILLING you both!!!

Made it as far as Bantam.  Really couldn't skate very well at first, got better as I went along.  One of my coaches wanted to switch to goalie...I didn't then left hockey all together.

Then in my middle teen years, took up league and school soccer.  Started off as inside right then guess what...switched to goalie where I was much more successful.  Should off stuck with it but I didn't see any money in playing professional soccer at that time.

I've been playing for the better part of 30 years now....not at any high level mind you but I stick it out because of my love for the game. Started out in squirt then pee wee, bantam and midget then I was out my age range so I played for about 4 years in a league in Huntingdon Quebec. After that it was mostly mens league stuff with tournaments thrown in here and there for good measure. I'm about 25 pounds over my ideal playing weight at 250 pounds and 6'1" but I'll keep playing until A:...I can't find equipment that fits or B:....I drop dead of a heart attack on the ice......

I played a lot as a kid. I was a stereotypical power forward.  I played left wing, and center most of my playing time, although I started as a defenseman.  I played AAA for many years, and played on my highschool team the 3 years we had it.  It was always fun, but as a power forward, how do you play when no one can hit you?  I am lucky to get out once a year now, last year I didn't play at all.  One day when I don't have to run out to work, I will tell Johab all about what I did as a youngster.  We can compare war stories.

I still think I could take a punk kid out, so bring it on Johab.  And as for me not being able to catch you.  You may be able to out skate me, but I am sure I will be able to catch you........ with your head down little man

I take that challenge Rip! Suprisingly one of my greatest abilities on skates are how well im able to stand my ground. I am extremely hard to knock down ( even with my head down...there have been a few times someone has tried to catch me with my head down and they ended up on the ground and i just sort of bounce off ) But i think it would be really fun to play a game with some people from the board. Im sure we would have to stop a few fights between members

BTW Johab, ever ran into a brick wall?  If we played together you would find out what it is like.

Never have, never will. And ive been told myself that running into me is like hitting a brick wall ( and not just by smaller people ) Wonder what happens when to brick walls hit each other. Then again when you compare us side by side im sure you'd get the Wall title, id probably get a cement column.
