A point about Koivu

Why do we say he's always hurt? Freak accident with stick to the face and a rare disease do not count as a fragile player. Seriously. Other than that, he's played well and let's more slide off his back than a greased pig. Don't post any counter replies, just stick up for the guy. He is our captain and will be for a while.

I could, and would defend koivu until my voicebox or fingers exploded. The guy in my opinion gives his life to the team because the team/organization saved his. Yes...he isnt exactly the most consistant in the games department and will miss 1-=15 games a season. BUT He is consistantly one of our top scorers, top assist leaders, our captain, leader, inspiration and never whines even though he gets it from the montreal media all the time. One jerk even had the guts to ask him why he doesnt try to learn french if he loves montreal so much. ( If i were a reporter at that conference, i would have punched the guy in the mouth ) Koviu will retire a hab, and MAYBE even one day have his name retired. ( That is if he wins a cup here )Either way he will always be remembered!

Even for you Figaro...THAT post is just too much!

You begin with a foolish question...then you answer it (your own question mind you)...followed by the denial of the truth (it doesn't count as a missed game when you get hit in the eye...riiiiiiiggght!!!)...chased by more silly excuses and defenses...then you shove your head further into the sand by specifically requesting not to hear the opposing views.

WOW!

I guess you could say I'm in the Koivu lovers camp. I have always liked his style and his work ethic but he is definitely injury prone. Weakest set of knees I have ever seen but then again...todays game is quite a bit different than it was 20 years ago and if Koivu was playing on a line with LaFleur and LeMaire I doubt we would even be having the discussion about his lack of offensive production lately. I think he is a great Captain and hopefully he can put together some injury free seasons because he sure deserves them after all he has been through over the past few seasons.

In my opinion his biggest problem has been the fact that he himself set the expectations so high. When he came into the league it looked like he was going to be teh next coming of the Rocket, scoring goals almost at will. Then that first knee injury. I do not think he ever got fully back on track after that injury as far as points production. Having said that, the guy shows up to play every night and does the best he can with what he has and you need to respect him for that. I have said all along that he would be the best number 2 center in the league if the habs get a number one. I stand by that.

with ya 100% Barry. As much as i love koivu, he is not a #1. He'd kill as a #2 but to take the #1 duties is breaking him down too much.

Geez, Barry, he had a whopping 20 goals in that first season (one off from his all-time high of 21 to this day), so how does that equate to the "second coming of the Rocket"?

Now, in his second year when he was leading the league in scoring (although mainly assists, not goals) then got hurt..........he never did recover that same magic.

My point is that getting hurt doesn't make you a bad player.  Tell me that Lindros is a bad player.  Tell me that Hasek is a bad player.  Should we settle for guys who only have perfect attendance?  Or should we sell the farm to fill the team with bionic men?
