The Habs…yes, the Habs…are deep in terms of the centre position!!!
Consider guys like; Chipchura, Locke, Urquhart, Aubin, Lapierre, Grabovsky, White & Maxwell…cripes, that is a pretty talented and diverse group with a good mix of size, speed and grit.
If even half of these guys develop up to their potential…And-o thinks we’ll have centre’s coming out our rumps!!!
I don't think that qualifies as irony. Irony would only be applicable if we were forced to bring up all those centres and then prove they are fit for the big show.
(An example of irony is saying something is ironic when it ain't - or when your avatar is Spock and logic eludes you :P

Pretty funny fig. I am sure and-o will reply by telling you that you must need your helmet adjusted

I have to side with And-o on this one *. I can see the irony. We have been complaining non-stop of the Habs' lack of talent down the middle when ironically we have plenty of talented centres in the organization.
* Not that there's anything wrong with that.

Ah - the irony is that grammarman sides with the non-ironic when calling non-ironic ironic. The only irony is that the one person who gripes non-stop about the Habs need for a centre finally realized that we just may be stacked in the little leagues and a little patients is all the doctor ordered (not patience ) Now that's irony.

I am not blind to the fact that we have talent in the system at that position. I guess the question is how long should we or will we wait for it to develop and make a contribution? IT ain;t happening this year.

GO FIGURE!!!
What hasn't changed is the need for a first liner. Those guys are all depth centermen but none of the elite calibre that we need.
We have a number of #2 level centermen, but not a #1, but in the new NHL it is better to have a number of reasonably paid 2nd and 3rd-liners than having highly paid first-liners and a bunch of cheap 4th-liners... just look at Tampa.

I was thinking the same thing earlier in the week. It's hard to know what to do now with the cap. If you sign a high priced guy like Gomez, who is to say he isn't going to flop, and your stuck with his contract for the remaining years. The thing that helped Buffalo last year was most of thier young players were in contract years. They played to get payed, isn't that what the new NHL is about? Young talent will win cups, 1 big line, and 3 lines of youngsters with something to prove.

That is true Ripple..but look at the position Buffalo is in now. They are a victim of their own success. Because the had such a great season alot of the "no-name" players like Miller and Connolly and Briere will be getting huge raises and because of the Cap, Buffalo will need to start cutting some of them loose.
In the new NHL you can certainly build with young talent. But you will only have one or maybe 2 years to win a cup with them one they mature..because after that you will no longer be able to afford them. I have no doubt that Montreal will compete for a cup in a few years. maybe sooner. But they will get one shot and one shot only then be forced to let players go due to salary and rebuild.

And-O the group is good, but lacks a true number 1 guy. Hopefully one of them will surprise and be a dominant #1 centre we have wanted for a long long time.
