According to TSN, Devils accept the $5 mil arbitration ruling and sign Gomez to a one year extension. So they are definitely over the cap with 3 others to sign.
The only question remaining is where will Gomez end up or will the Devils keep him and dump the other 3? Their major problem is that if they trade him they are probably going to end up getting about the same salary back in turn or they trade him for draft picks. Their other option would be to let the other 3 players walk and get nothing in return. It looks to be a lose-lose situation for the Devils either way. Spector's site did mention something about another team taking on Malakhov's salary (in a Gomez trade that is) that would count against their cap but they wouldn't have to pay him....didn't make alot of sense to me but that would be one way to dump some extra salary if this is allowed.
I have heard the Devils want someone to take Gomez with Malakhov or Mogilny depending if the team just wants to do the cap hit as said with Malakhov, or actually would like a guy for that hit (Mogilny). Either way, money saved will be used on Gionta.
