So in the Gazette today it has an article about Gainey's signing. He then went on to address the Briere rumor, saying he was not in the running. I turned to my friend and said "Just like when he said he wasn't in the running for Alex Kovalev." Which got me to think, would I believe something Gainey were to say concerning what ho does or does not want? Or would I go the opposite direction considering Gainey's track record for out of no where trades/signings. I'm not calling him a liar, however the fact that he addressed the Briere rumor means something.....even though I would want him to pass on briere.
I believe rumours with the Habs are just that. Gainey has turned this organization back into a respected one. The last thing we expect to happen, happens.
I'm not trying to predict anything.....but you can't go around making claims like that, cause no one here is in the know about what Gainey is thinking. It may or may not be the final roster

Jay the only way it will not be our final roster is if there are tradeable commodities....habs are near capped out like most other teams. Who would they trade to get cap space? Ribs? Nope. Been there and tried that. Souray? Perhaps. But we are not overwhelmed with defence prospects. Ryder? Maybe. But hate to let your only legitimate goal scorer go. If he takes Briere or Gomez or anyone else worthwhile, he needs to ship someone the other way.

I GUARENTEE you this is montreals final roster. Gainey said it himself in the journal de montreal today. He said now that the players have all been signed he is looking to focus on the team and the upcoming season. dont expect anything to happen out of Gaineys doing. If something DOES happen, it is from another GM's interest in OUR team. Only one i could see POSSIBLY moving is Abby, and i also guarentee 1 of either huet or abby will not be here next year come this time!

Don't you think a GUARENTEE is a risky thing only half way through the offseason??? on the other hand you are probably right johab
well what kind of guarantees are you guys offering? Cause I don't think anyone who is named anything other than Bob Gainey can know for sure. And the fact that he told the media that doesn't mean anything. Like I said before, he stated he was not in the Alex Kovalev sweepstakes, and then got him.
Barry, obviously to have a trade, tradable commodities are needed. One man's trash is another man's treasure.......
Johab, I can also confidently say that one of our 2 goalies will not be here. Its only logical due to the payroll for backup goalie such as either Huet OR Aebi is too high, and their value at the trade deadline (if one of them lasts up until them without being traded) will be very high.
If last year is any indication, it's a good thing to have two real goalies on your roster. I think you'll see a lot of teams try to have two goalies in the next few years.,

Gainey will keep abby to start the season..why you ask? Iam glad you asked. Because to be realistic, Huet has one half season as a legitimate number one goalie. Who says that he can do the same again> Who says he was not a flash in the pan? Can you say Jose Theodore? Everyone..1-2-3 Jose Theodore....thats it.
Bottom line is that Gainey will want to insure that Huet was not a fluke before he goes trading away Abby...once bitten, twice shy.

Well said, Barry, you asked and answered all the questions I didn't know I had! The nice thing also is that Danis is ready to go when we do move one of those guys and we have enough goalie talent to immediately fill his place in Hamilton. I really like the depth we have right now.
