...a 'Thank-you' card to Saku Koivu and his agent!

Cripes, how 'open and shut' was that case???

Briere's agent merely needed to ask the arbitrator..."If Saku Koivu is worth $4.75...well...c'mon??!?!?!?!?!??"

The next statement made was....."CASE CLOSED...FIVE LARGE $$$ TO DANNY!!!

that 1 was too easy rwp, come on and-o of all the overpaid bums in the nhl you have to pick saku to make this statement . he could have said hey if sundin, lecavlier are worth 7 mil + then im worth 5 , open and shut . and-o if you dont like the captain (and we know you dont ) why not change teams , i hear the leafs have a little room left on their bandwagon after the signed all those high salaries .

Actually And-o, looking at all the "big signings'...Koivu should be considered a steal...that is of course if he recovers from the eye injury.

Ah come on And-o...admit it...

Its OK however...i am sure Koivu will....once again prove you wrong(how many years is that now...you must be getting tired of getting mud all over your face)...

I really think this will be the year koivu is in the top 10-15 point producers.

All the stars and planets would have to line up perfectly for Saks to accomplish that. He has a hard enough time staying ahead of Ribs in the points department.

You have to agree though that Briere is similer to Saks in points, size, leadership and skill. So as And-o stated, the arbitrator probably took that into consideration. Briere is just as overpaid as Saks!

Here's the story.....

7/23/2006 6:29:14 PM

Buffalo Sabres star Daniel Briere has been awarded a one year, $5 million settlement through arbitration.

The two sides had been trying to work out a long term deal, but were unable to reach an accord before the arbitrator's ruling. The contracts signed by Martin Havlat, Marian Gaborik and Alex Tanguay were apparently used as benchmarks in this case.

The Sabres now have 48 hours to accept the settlement or reject it and allow Briere to become an unrestricted free agent. Even if the Sabres accept the one-year deal, Briere will be eligible for free agency after the season.

For that reason, the Sabres were rumoured to be quietly shopping Briere throughout the arbitration process, and Briere could still be traded within the next couple of days - provided the Sabres accept the one-year deal.  Montreal, Los Angeles and Atlanta are among the teams in the mix.

Related Info

Briere only played 48 games last season due an abdominal injury that required surgery.  Before getting hurt, Briere was on his way to a career-year, scoring 25 goals and 33 assists for 58 points.

if(dUnitBox==true){boxAd=true;}
if(boxAd){if((!dUnitSky)||(!dUnitSuper)||(dUnitBox)){place300x250();}}

Briere returned in time to put up 8 goals and 11 assists for 19 points in 18 playoff games as Buffalo came within one win of reaching the Stanley Cup Finals.

In 2003-04, Briere had his best NHL season, scoring 28 goals and 37 assists for 65 points in 82 games.

Briere has played 402 NHL games, scoring 130 goals and 151 assists for 281 points.

I guess Andy and AB have been shown the light with actual facts posted my McGirl. Try not to let them get in your way in the future regarding your hatred towards the captain....

Just to note.... I posted this story without reading the posts. I just picked the "Briere" thread closest to the top to post the story (to prevent multiple kin threads) & not because of what conversations were taking place. I was glancing through TSN.ca this morning & that was the top story... I knew it was being chatted about in a few threads that I read yesterday so pasted it on gahabs.

I do not, I repeat DO NOT in any way hate our Captain.... & no one on here will change my mind on this topic. (whether it be Koivu, Kovy, Ryder... or any other teammate) It is solely the actions of each player that will determine how I feel about them

No worries ~ Koivu'll shine this season

BTW ~ Any word on his health as of late?

I like Brier He is fast and pretty much a perfect fit for the new NHL.

AB...I appreciate your line of thinking here....both small. But Koivu is a much different style of player than Briere.

I figure Briere could get 90 points in a season...but I would still take koivu's 65 points+defensive/grit skills( that is if they were the same age....the thinge. Briere has going for him is that he is relatively young I think).

He is 29. His story is similar to St Louis' where he was picked off waivers. A good player but only in the new NHL.

Sorry MC, the hate towards the captain comment was meant for Andy and AB, not you. I was just stating that you posted facts, they came up with their own "facts"

As for his eye, I hope he's ok. No official word as of yet.

Actually if you are to focus on Koivu being overpaid, I would throw Kovalev in there as well in my opinion. The guy has underachieved.

...yeah, and this could be the year that the Muslims and Jews finally settle things for good as well!

Honestly Mulsey...rub a lamp for this one...because you would likely have the same odds of them coming true!

"if he recovers".....geeeez...haven't heard that one before!

I guess And-o will just be scraping more egg off his face from Saku's dominance...s'yeah!

I said the arbitrator probably took Sak's salery into consideration. I didn't have those facts last night. The word probably doesn't equate to a factual statement.

You never seem to have the facts when you make your statements so we are used to it.

Look at you two (AB and JohnM), already in mid-season form.
