I caught the tail end of a biography on Frank Mahovalich on Life & Times on CBC just now. I was trying to remember other players who have had great years in both Montreal and Toronto.  Dick Duff and Gordie Drillon come to mind, but that's about it.  (And yes, I remember Duff, but Drillon was before even my time.)

Can anyone think of anyone else?

By the way, it said that Frank was asked by Jean Chretien to become a senator (i.e. a member of the Canadian Senate, not a hockey player for Ottawa) only after his first choice turned him down.  The first choice?  Jean Beliveau.  I knew he had turned down a chance to be Governor General, but I didn't know about the senate offer.  Ottawa's loss is Montreal's gain.

* For the Americans on this board - and I know Davidb knows this - they are appointed to the senate in Canada, not elected like in the US

Forgot about Vinnie (he was only in TO for a year, I think).  But I wouldn't say Gilmour had great years with the Habs; he was well over his prime then - but still good, granted.

If your going to mention Courtnall, you have to mention Kordic.  Not a talented player, but one of the best enforcers ever.

Courtnall? Who mentioned him?  I forgot he was with TO before Montreal, and had good numbers at both places.

So to recap, so far we have:  Frank Mahovalich, Dick Duff, Gordie Drillon, Damphousse, Courtnall, Corson, Gilmour, Kordic.

Not a bad list after all!

How about Gilmour (93) - Perrault (94) - Berazin (95)

Berazin's first goal as a Hab was the 10,000th home ice goal scored by the Canadiens and was scored and assisted by ex-leafs...... Berazin from Gilmour & Perrault

What a great piece of trivia!

I forgot Perreault was an ex-Leaf.  A good one for the list (although I'd leave Berezin off).

Oops.  I had typed Coutnall and erased a typo. Should have read:"Russ Courtnall.  If you're going to mention Courtnall ..."

I thought you were going to say Michel "Bunny" Larocque.

Well. Plante can be the starter and Bunny the back-up on our all-time Hab/Leaf Team.

Gaston Gingras.

Doug Jarvis was drafted by the Leafs, but never played for them.

Yes, he played parts of two years with the Laffs, but didn't do much.  His best years were with New Jersey & Montreal.

We're starting to accumulate a pretty good team!  A little weak on defense, however (much like the present-day Habs & Leafs ).  I'll have try try to dredge up a couple.

Leave it with me.

Well, here's all I could find: Larry Hillman, Bill Root, Lucien Deblois, Ric Nattress, Mathieu Schneider (I forgot he was a Leaf briefly), Gerald Diduck, Jyrki Lumme, and Dave Manson.  Not exactly a Norris Trophy line-up, although Schneider & Lumme aren't bad.

On the other hand, I found another back-up goalie - Wayne Thomas, and a surprise forward - Hall of Famer Dickie Moore!  Who knew he was ever a Leaf?

You need defense men ......go with Bill Root & Mathieu Schneidier and another forward dangerous Dan Dauost - At the time The Habs had to make a decision keeping one of these two - Dauost or Guy Carbonneau....I think they made the right choice.....
