Alexi Yashin is the reason the Islanders will struggle despite their good moves this off-season in the coaching, gm, and character player front.
His contract is the definition of ALBATROSS. Rumour was the Isles were willing to give up the 7th overall pick in this years draft to any team that would take Yashin and his whole contract off their hands and they would package these two for any teams first rounder that was lower in the draft.
That contract will hamper a team for the next 3-4 years. If it was for a guy who legitamitely made your team and everyone on it better its an okay deal, but Yashin is not in that Superstar class with the Prongers, Thorntons, of this league. His contract is way out of whack for what is essentially an average to above average first line centre who disappears in the playoffs. He is not a perennial Hart trophy contender but is paid like one.
ALEXI YASHIN....Sorry but gimme a break....this guy shows up when he feels like I know he's a great scorer and all but, some days you cant find him on the ice...I think that would be a grave mistake picking that guy up...We need grit and composure Yashin at times lacks both...I think hes a no go

(You had a HUGE gap of nothing, so I cut it down - Z)
He's a bum and the anti-Hab. There is no way he'd ever sign in Montreal. He played hard to get with OTT on purpose to get out and he'll never come back.
I'm not a fan of Yashin, but given that the guy was blamed for everything that went wrong in Ottawa, who can blame him for wanting to get out of there? And as for "spoiled athlete" the guy is still one of the biggest supporters of charities in the league. He's a genuinely good guy, but a bit of a softie who'll never make a good team leader or franchise player. And yes, he is the reason the Islanders are in such rough shape.
