I was at the first home game of last season(against Ottawa- my only experience of being at a match) and recall Theodore being cheered to the rafters when he skated on to the ice,Fans are fickle- if Ribs starts doing the job we may not like him but we'll cheer the goals!!(even in Glasgow!

He is a Hab in the end and if he makes the Habs a better team than I am all for it. If it is true that he has been training and getting ready for the upcoming season instead of the usual than kudos to him. Also without Theo and Dags he has nothing to distract him. I hope he does well in a Habs uniform.

You might also have mentioned that Ribeiro wears (penny) loafers, and his flip-flops prove he can go down and back up again like the market. Also, at $1.9 Million, his stock is much over-valued.

Still, for the time being at least, he's a Hab and we must cheer him on.

And-o just thinks that the Riblet bashers (including And-o) ought to sort of tone down the rhetoric, since the Habs will likely need him to elevate his game (and mature) in order to enjoy any measure of success at all (that #2 slot is/was/will be just absolutely crucial)!

In fact, if you consider Riblet's "peer group" in terms of being hated (eg. Avery, Varada, Barnaby, Claude Lemieux, etc...), having a controversial guy on the roster could grow into a real positive (especially one that should theoretically be coming into his "prime").

And-o would love to read the posts here if Ribby could reach the quarter pole of the season with a +10 rating, 10 goals and 15-18 assists!

...REMEMBER, since Gainey is facing ALL of the fall-out for keeping Ribs, Gainey will merit ALL of the "credit" for taking another shot with Ribs?

How ironic would it be if the "non-trade" or "non-buyout" of Mike Ribeiro turned out to be the biggest/best move?

The last time Ribs saw "Plus 10" was a mild day in January last year. My problem with the guy is that he has shown an inability and unwillingness to play anything even close to resembling defensive hockey. Samsonov and Kovalev are not exactly Doug Jarvislike defensively either. You will not see any of those 3 falling over each other trying to get back to their own end in a hurry. I would be happy if Ribs at least showed some defensive accountablity..if he scores a few then it will be a bonus. Hopefully this "new commitment" he has shown will provide dividends. I still believe that Gainey tried very hard to move Ribs and was unable to, thus he had to sign him. So if Ribs does somehow turn it around, Gainey will not look like a "genius". He will simply have been very lucky (much like finding a brain dead GM in Colorado to take Theo off his hands).
