The only guys I hear talking about tradition and why it has importance are Russian and Europeans... I might be wrong, but when it comes to passion beating greed, I'll take them any day...
It does seem that the Euro's like Montreal. They do always talk about tradition. I think that the "Montreal Canadians" glorification still exists to some extend. i think it has less to do with greed than it does with the atmosphere in montreal/Quebec.
However, I must admit it does appear that recent teams that win the cup are loaded with western and Ontario boys. Look at the habs:
...Koivu/Kovalev/Samsonov/Plekanec/Perezogan/Koistysian/Bonk/Markov/Heut/Abiesher/sreit/and now that Gorbechev(sp?? guy). Even our good North Americans are mostly Americans...Komi/Higgins.
The habs are loaded. Is this a good thing??? Recent history says it is not...

Can't change the past, can only write the future. Let's break tradition. First Euro Captain to lead team to cup (though the name Gretzky sure doesn't sound non-European :P)
