2 year deal, I haven't found out the $$$$$ yet.  But now the big question, will BG bring in another Russian to center Samsonov and Kovy?  Kozlov might be looking better now.

Samsonov is one of those players who was always a Hab-killer.  He wasn't a huge producer for the Bruins, but always seemed to score big points against us.  I'm glad we have him now!

I don't know much about Johnson, but he seems a fair trade for Zednik.  Zed had run out his string, as far as I was concerned.  He played the entire last season as if he was lost on the ice (and no one told him he was allowed to put two hands on the stick).

A good day for the Habs, all around!

Woot!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Samsonov > Zednick

Johnson > Bulis

We are a better team.

Are we gonna fly now or what.  The Speed on this team screams NEW NHL.

Wow, the Habs get even quicker and upgrade the teams skill dramatically, particularly with Samsanov. They get two right hand shots, which the team needed. Gainey is able to swap a fourth for a third round draft pick. In Samsanov the Habs have a player that is close to the same skill level of Kovalev. Club house atmosphere will improve as well, and with these two pickups allows Gainey even more flexibility to make further moves. Kudos to Gainey.

I'm glad that Gainey didn't sign players like the unsavy investor chasing a hot stock tip. We could have been burned if Gainey let emotions get to him during this free agency signing period. Samsonov and Johnson will provide the scoring we need. But more importantly they give us flexibility in building 3 solid lines and taking pressure off Koivu.

i called for this trade this past year and tons of people shut me down.....this guy's speed , stickhadling and vision along with Kovalev or Koivu will change our team tremendously. Iam extremely delighted to have Samsonov on our team

So nice! I love this guy. Sometimes his skating reminds me of Denis Savard... Maybe I'm crazy...

But he's a guy I've loved to watch in the last couple of years!

I'm ordering my jersey as soon as the number is known!

I'm guessing he's going to keep 12, you'd think?

Isn't 12 retired?

Yes that number is retired, the weird thing is was retired for 2 players Dickie Moore and Yvan Cournoyer. I think they should get rid of Bonk and give Samsonov #14

That's cool that we got S.S. I seriously thought he was was 5-6 yrs older than he is. So, really, a good young player. I'm just glad that we seem to have a big upgrade on the team. With what we have now, we're just missing some D. Other than that, if we're "stuck" with two #1 goalies, I'm not crying.

I didn't even know about this until I logged onto GoHabs at 10 tonight.  What a great move by Gainey.  I've watched Samsonov up close since his first season in Boston ('97 or '98 I think).  The guy always made me more nervous than Thornton ever did.  I know, sounds like hyperbole, but he is the real McCoy.  He's gonna look great in a Habs uniform.  Awesome.  Simply awesome!

Glad to see Gainey finally got someone.  Samsonov is a player with great talent, but I worry after watching the Stanley cup finals, where he didn't play that well.  Losing Zednik will free up alittle money, but I would take him over Johnson any day.  I just hope he doesn't turn into the player he used to be.  Imagine the line of Ovechkin, Zubrus and Zednik.  I'd rather have Bulis than Johnson.  Would like to see another deal, but these ones today have gotten me excited about the season and I wish it started tomorrow!

I heard Sergei was asking for Four Million, is the 3.5 per year confirmed, Habtastic

Yup, his salary is confirmed. Great signing. But I have to disagree with you about Zed and Bulis, and I liked both, but Johnson is a better player than both of them. He is a more complete and consistent player and he is a dressing room leader, which we lack. I also love the fact that he is a right-handed shot that can play wing and center.

Love the Samsonov signing...someone said he used to make them more nervous than Thornton...I agree. You know what else I like...his talent has been known for a while...Bruins drafted hin 8th overall...for some reason I like those guys who have always had that raw talent...rather than a guy like ryder who was drafted very low and you always question if he has just been a bit fluky.

Still not sure if this Johnson guy is a suitable replacement for the Zed of 2 seasons ago. At one point I thought Zed was a emerging power forward...strong legs...goes to the net. I am not sure why he lost a step last season.

Anyhow if Johnson is a leader that is great....we need them. But I also have read that he is a bit of a wussy...I find it hard to imagine a "wussy" leader. I guess we will see.

And why the bloody heck do we not sign Bulis?????????????????????????

He scored 20+ goals

He is a solid defensive forward with great anticipation to break up plays

He is fairly big and can skate in the new NHL

I can't think of a better 2nd or 3rd line player. Hello!

Mulsey...Johnson is a softy physically...NOT a wuss...just doesn't initiate contact often enough, although he can take a hit!  It earned him a ticket out of 'Terona'.  Anyway...the guy is apparently a very likable teammate.

...And-o has said all along that Bulis needs to be resigned...otherwise the guy will go score +30 for a division rival!
