Gainey went on to say that he is still in the hunt for an offensive player, and that he still has interests in players that are under the Unrestricted free agent bracket. Gainey also said that he has had a lot of call and interest on Aebischer and Souray. But those two are under contract with the team. he also mentioned Souray would like to move closer to his daughter in California. Gainey says detroit has very much interest in Aebischer. Gainey says he would like to have one his young guys fill a spot on the roster this season so he does not want to tie up a spot and leave a young guy who steps up, back to the minors. So gainey basically says he is not done looking for players and that He is looking for an offensive player.

Gainey also indicated that he would not pursue a restricted free agent, he felt that was not an appropriate way to go. Gainey also indicated Sykora by name as a possible candidate to acquire as a ufa, but left the possibility open ended, not committing fully to Sykora. Gainey indicated that the Habs had a strong interest in certain ufa's but the list was short and there were many teams competing against the Habs for their services.

I really like Souray, but I wouldn't mind seeing him go if the price is right, especially to the west where he can be closer to his daughter.

I agree Jay I would hate to see him go. But lets face it. Gainey has been trying to move guys like Ribs, Zednick, Streit and Bulis for over a year without a bite. It is becoming obvious that he will have to give up something he does not want to give up to get anything in return, especially with the lack of a UFA signing. I can see Souray being a great fit in Anaheim. Imagine their defence with Pronger, Souray and Nedermeyer?

 FAMILY FIRST, i like for souray to stay in habland,but, family is more important than anything else.

To letting Souray go is like taking 2 steps forward and 5 steps back. It would be a BIOG mistake I think.

There are a dozen D-men in the league just like Souray, just none of them have the bionic wrist.  Take Souray's cannon away, and he is a just like Rivet, only not as responsible.   I just read some of what was said by Gainey at his press conference today.  Man can that guy talk!!!  He had me all excited about how great his plan is, I even read MC a few of the quotes.  She quickly reminded me that yeah he can talk, but that is all he is doing, talking.  I'll say it again, man can that guy talk!


Check these beauties out.


 “We have the money to spend. If we spend it well, we’ll have value for it and our fans will value for it. If we spend it poorly, then we’re both going to suffer.”


“Free agency is exactly that. Players are free to choose where they want to go. If you look at the big picture, there are more players that didn’t fit into our plans than those for whom we didn’t fit into theirs.”

That last quote was possibly the best quote I have ever read. 


He followed with this one, it might rival that last one.
