I was incharge of flight AC 388 (montreal-Boston) tonight, and low and behold, Brendan Shanahan was on the flight. I was able to get a few quick words in with him before leaving for Boston. He said he was in montreal to talk to Gainey and see where the team is heading, and Gainey's plans for the Habs. He didn't go into any details as to what exactly was said, however as he pointed out, the media, and pressure of winning in Montreal is NOT a factor for him. he was with his wife, and I jokingly asked her if she liked it here in montreal. She said she loved it. Which for some of you might be comforting Anyways, the interesting part, was this: There was my colleage with me, a concerige (takes care of VIPs) asked me to upgrade him before I started boarding the flight. Before Shanahan got there. So I did it with pleasure, seeing as how Gainey was wooing him, I figured I would as well As I handed him the boarding pass, I said I would give it to him if he'd wear the CH this upcoming season, as a joke. I laughed as well as he and his wife, and gave him his boarding pass, he then said, well if thats how we are gonna measure it, might as well give me a few upgrade then....
Interesting...
Funny side note, its the 6th straight day I get an NHLer on the flight I was incharge of
Great post. very, very interesting. I read somewhere that there were 2 teams still in the running for Shanahan, Detroit and another non-specified team. So I guess we are in the running with Detroit. Shanahan would be great to have in Montreal. If he signs here, it would only be an attestant to his character. I'm curious, what other players have you seen within these past few days?
Shayne Corson going to toronto, Vincent LeCavaliver going to Charlotetown, Sheldon Souray going to LA, Micheal Ryder going to Halifax, as well as Matt Lombardi going to Calgary. Matt Lombardi is also bringing his car in on Monday to get fixed. He's giving my father some hockey sticks lol. I only found out a few days ago that he's one of my father's clients.
We need a goal scorer, and from that perspective Shanahan fits the bill. The concerns I would have are the following: 1) A lot of mileage on Shanahan's 37 year old body. The last three playoff seasons Shanahan's performance has been very poor, possibly a result of fatigue from the regular season. It is a gamble as to whether at age 38 Shanahan can make a valuable contribution when we need him the most, in the playoffs. 2) Do we get the 25 goal scorer from two season ago, or the 40 goal man last season? 3) To land Shanahan it probably will take very close to 5 million a year, for two years, that takes up alot of cap space, and probably negates a major trade to further upgrade the team.
On the plus side, Shanahan signing would be a great message for future high profile free agents to seriously consider the Habs when looking for a new home. Shanahan would bring tremendous leadership to the club and would be a major upgrade offensively. Unfortunately we would be acquiring a player who is no longer a protype power forward and is now more of a perimter player, but someone who could add offense. At this point although expensive, he's the best option presently available.
Thanks guys! I actually couldn't wait to get home and type this up. I checked out the site, lol, some dude actually went onto aircanada.com and checked to see if there was a flight

I must be a little thick, Jay; I'm not sure I fully understand this one. Was he saying if you gave him enough upgrade coupons, he'd sign with the Habs?
Sounds promising in any event!

1st class upgrade. Its a small plane, but still has business class. Since Boston isn't far they don't get big planes like Airbus or Boeing. Plus I gave him the seat that i normally fly on. 2A and 2C. those seats are the best for travelling first class.
