What do you guys think of starting a season long hockey pool?  I will organize players into 16 different sections, and we all choose 1 per section.  (16 is just a number I randomly picked).  If your into it, give me some ideas too.

Not sure yet, just came up with the idea.  We'll see what everyone else says.  But if there is money involved, the winner of the playoff pool is out LOL

im not afraid of jay winning a season pool. He, in my opinion, fluked out with the playoff pool and got lucky with Edmonton making it as far as they did. Honestly, chances were against him and most of the time if you go with chance over sure thing you will get burned. Id like to see his pool for a season. Players strictly from St Louis, Columbus, Pittsburg, Toronto

Well, I run a few season and playoff pools for hockey, and they are for cash, if you or anyone else wants to join in, be my guest. I welcome you guys, and Johab, you are just upset that i beat ya just kidding. In all honesty, I did take a gamble with edmonton, BUT, I knew what i was doing at the same time. I followed edmonton as much as I followed the Habs this year because I had Hemsky and a few other Oilers in some of my pools this year, so for me the habs and oil were my most scouted teams.

I like this format.  I join a couple of these every year at work, and they use something like officepools.com to keep track of the players/points/pool standings.

I would request that we have two pre-determined trading periods too.

We did a yahoo one that Johab organized last year.  Who was it who won that one??

We did head to head format with multiple categories.

I was 2nd place all season but got upset in the first round of the playoffs.

Ill be honest, i gave up on that pool almost halfway through the season ( nearing the olympic break i realized i still had brett hull on my team

Thing is i joined a much tougher pool that i put all my effort and work into. I now know to only join 1 pool on yahoo at a time. haha

Im all in for this one tho!

MC said we should do it for fun too.  And I like Mario's idea of 2 trade periods.  Just need a format idea.  I don't think I need office pools to take care of it.  I can set up an excell spread sheet that will do all my totalling, I just need to update the points once a week or so.

I was actually wondering if this board was capable of handing out medals. On some of the other message boards, the program allows for medals to be given and they are displayed under the username and avatar. We could of course make one for pool champion, playoff pool champion; among other medals for each hockey season.

Well, I tried last pool & came close. I hold the bronze medal for the Playoff Pool 2006, only 2 goofballs beat me. (Just kiddin' Jay & Johab) LOL......  I coulda done better but I only picked from a handful of teams instead of spreading it around & was out of guys by the third.

I like the idea of a season long pool. I'm all in!!!! (oh wait... this ain't poker.... I'm in)

Hey all,

Is there any more news on this?  My better half asked if a pool had started yet, so I had to go hunting for this old thread...we've got a couple of weeks to go before the "real" puck drops!

I would like to get my picks in - and I love Rip's format if that's how we're gonna go...and Mario's two trade options.

Wassup folks?

I'm guessin' you want a GoHabs pool like rwp2le ran for the playoff's as opposed to the one Jay set up with Yahoo. (I thought it was "instead of" but maybe others prefer this method best... so why not both? )

I'm sure rwp2le would be happy to do it again.... when he calls from work, I'll let him know... & I'll post his answer right away & start the thread for your picks & rules. (that is ... if he does it I don't wanna jump the gun here )
