Luongo is available and proven. Gainey has yet to sign Huet( what's taken him) so maybe we pass on him and trade Abi for Luongo along with Zed and Ribs. If Gainey does sign Huet than consider him in the trade rather than Abi.

Just some thoughts but I would try hard to get Luongo. He's the real deal. Better and more proven than Huet. I'm not bashing Huet because he was our saviour but how many times do you get a chance at dealing for a top two or three goalie like Luongo?

I agree that getting Luongo would be great, but there are a lot of factors that go into it. One is that it will cost a lot more than a goalie, Zed, and Ribs. Another is many teams will be going after him. A third reason is that there is a very good chance he is gunning for Free Agency and that means we get him for only one year or have to put out 7-8mil to have a chance to hold onto him. Also, would Keenan trade him to an Eastern opponent? Another is loyalty and opportunity to the guy who saved our behinds this year. Those are only some of the factors in a very complicated situation.

Agreed. We would only have him for one year and then he would go to the highest bidder. You can bet that won't be Gainey, that's for sure. Besides, the way I see it, if it aint broke, don't fix it. Same reason last offseason I said it would be stupid to trade Theodore for Luongo. Huet played very well this season, so let's give him another shot at it. It's if Huet falters that we may feel we need a new goalie.

The hot rumour now (and take it for what it is worth) has LA shipping Garon and two skaters to Florida for Luongo. Makes sense to me.

Actually Barry, this was a deal that LA offered before the trade deadline, then the retracted their offer.

That sure sounds cheap to me for a goalie of Luongo's caliber but I think this weekend will tell the story.

It would be cheap if Luongo was not going to be a free agent in a year. If LA (or whomever) pulls off a trade for him, they are giving up players for a guy they may only have for one year. Right now Keenan is at Luongo's agent's mercy and whomever takes him on in a trade will be put in the same position....praying they can make Roberto happy enough to keep him aropund a few more years..at a reasonable price. If I am a GM it is not a chance I wanna take. The guy has not even played an NHL playoff game yet.

Jay I would never ignore a referee and a fellow Guru. I know that rumour surfaced awhile ago but it seems to be growing legs again. I think Keenan has come to grips with the fact he will not be signing Roberto after he hits UFA so he is probably more prone to take what he can get rather than nothing. Garon does not seem to fit into LA's plans anymore after faltering down the stretch and with the emergance of what's his name.

However I'm not sure he will be going to LA. I could see him going to Vancouver....

Yes, and I'm still sure he will be, however I never said he would be playing with the habs in 06-07. In January, I thought keenan was gonna sign him to what luongo wanted, a one year deal. After the year deal he would move to montreal. If Vancouver signs him to a one year deal, then I believe he will be coming to montreal. If he signs for more, than his agent did a good job at changing his mind.
