Could someone PLEASE tell me the what the point was in signing this guy! I dont remember him playing much and he is ALREADY a UFA again. Seriously Bob, sometimes you make me wonder....

 What is going on?? If this was the old NHL, I'd say go for the toughness with Downey, Murray, Begin and Simpson but enough is enough already!

He was brought in for the play-offs for locker room leadership and insurance in case one of our tougher D went down. That's it, that's all.

 The playoffs are over and Gainey can pick up that kind of throw away at the deadline again for a dime.


 Cote should get a chance now if he's not willing to look elsewhere for defensive depth.

Yes, the play-offs are over and so is Simpson's tenure with the Habs. Attaining him and letting him go are both good moves by Gainey.

He was obtained for Playoff insurance.  I bet buffalo wishes they made a couple of these types of deals now.

Have to disagree with you there. I think that it is time that we need to all own up that Gainey makes some DUMB moves.,..my hope is that he will make more good moves than dumb ones and it will all pan out.

I agree he makes some dumb ones.  I am not willing to say that this one was a dumb one though.


Again, look at the Sabres, bet they wish they made the deal for Simpson.  They mighta made the finals with a little insurance at the blueline.

Simpson was a trade dead line pick up - so the salary paid was maybe
4 or 5 pay days so relatively inexpensive defense insurance...........
