After watching the Sabres great playoff run in large part due to their small but talented and relentless forwards, what are the chances Locke gets a chance to show his stuff?
Hey AB, do you have Locke's stats in terms of height and weight?
Locke is 5 foot 9 inches and weighs 175 pounds. He had a tough year in Hamilton, was a minus 15 and at one point was benched and questioned about his conditioning. No question his best attributes are his playmaking skills. Still I think guys like Grabovsky,Chipchura,Lapierre and even Mathieu Aubin, all centers have surpassed Locke on the Habs depth chart. Grabovsky looks the most interesting, great speed and had a great season by all accounts in the Russian super league and performed at a high level in the euro champions cup and at the world cup, he may have the greast upside potential, although he is probably a couple of years away.
I watched Locke for the whole year and his game really impresses me. Sure he's small but he wins more battles in the corners than Dagnaies did in Hamilton and he workes hard. He reminds me of Ribs but with a better work ethic and a harder slapshot. He's not NHL ready yet but hopefully in a couple years he could really improve his skating and be a second line center.
Another note about Lockes game is he's excellent at AHL faceoffs.
Locke is a center but also plays wing. A guy like him would be great on a line with a good playmaking center and Kovalev. He can score goals. I remember how excited I was when we drafted him. In the past I have watched a lot of Junior hockey on the TV (I am a total couch potatoe). This guy was amazing in Jr. I think if he had the right guys to play with he could put up a lot of points. Maybe a Joe Juneau like player, a few good offensive years, then a 4th liner or career american leaugher. I hope we get those offensive seasons.
Hes always been told he's too small and too slow, yet ye seems to put up offensive numbers wherever he goes. I think one day he may make it, just to prove all the critics wrong.
He has offensive instincts you can't teach, is quite the playmaker, and the game seems to slow down around him when he has the puck, he almost always makes the right play in the offensive zone.
In the defensive zone he needs a little work.
A fair comparison right now might be Mike Ribeiro minus the drama queen antics that Ribeiro seems to bring.
as good as Locke MIGHT be in the NHL 1 day, i dont want to see him centering ANY of the habs top 2 lines. We have been yelling and whining about small forwards...why replace saku with someone even smaller?!?! If we are gonna get better, we must first get bigger so the small guys CAN preform. Remember, those small guys in buffalo have been around for a while, some have cups and know what it takes. Filling our spots with rookies will not get us anywhere...lets work with what we NEED and CAN get and not with what we MIGHT have...

Corey Locke may be slow and not a great skater but then again Dale Hawerchuk wasn't a great skater either but he racked up tons of points (somewhere in the neighbourhood of 1200 plus). Maybe Locke is another Hawerchuk. Let's hope.
