On Monday morning the Los Angeles Kings will usher in Marc Crawford as the 20th head coach in franchise history.
Meanwhile, Crawford's old team the Vancouver Canucks are expected to step up the process of interviewing for his replacement this week and next.
However, at least one high-profile associate coach may be in the on the move as well.
Sources tell Sportsnet both the Montreal Canadiens and Pittsburgh Penguins have an interest in Hall of Famer Denis Savard.
Savard's contract with the Chicago Blackhawks is up and it is believed both Guy Carboneau in Montreal and Michel Therien in Pittsburgh see Savard as a highly-qualified first assistant.
Savard's probable move has also helped trigger the 'Hawks rumour mill. Former Penguins coach Ed Olczyk was also spotted Friday at the United Center in Chicago raising speculation as to his potential return to coaching.
With Alain Vigneault expected to be offered the Canucks job and Paul Maurice's recent promotion to the Toronto Maple Leafs bench, Olczyk would seem to be a good fit for either AHL team, if he doesn't land a suitable position in the NHL first.
I said before that either we need a tactician, a defenceman, or a fomer scoring star as the new assistant. Savard fits the 3rd one and maybe the second, as well. He was a smart and skilled player and he has experience as coach... and of course, he is french.
Savrd always seemed to accept whatever role he was given...remember the 93' plyofss when he was a bench warmer, he stoof behind the bench with an earpiece while he must of been burning to get on the ice. The guy sure would bring a lot of experience. What's funny is if Carbo, Savard, and Jarvis become the coaching staff, now everyone will talk on how the coaches are small and not the players...
Thing is, Savard never struck me as a coach type. I don't know about this one.
This is exactly what the Habs need!!! Another coach with very limited experience at anything other than playing. Sign him quick!!!! (Hoping the dripping sarcasm does not hurt your computer).

Keith- I do not discount the fact that guys like Carbo, Savard, Jarvis have all been successful as players and knwo how to win. I would just like to see them bring in at least one guy who has some coaching experience and knows the technical aspect a bit more to help these guys get their feet wet.
