This thing they call "reading"....

Johab will admit...besides this site and any habs related article and the occasional newspaper...i BARELY read. BUT I recently picked up a book...that normally i never would touch due to its size BUT....its been a VERY popular topic lately and i couldnt resist. I picked up The Da Vinci Code 3 days ago...and im already on page 114  ( 464 pages ) And i can BARELY put it down. And im also planning on watching the movie this weekend. If ANY of you havent read this book i GREATLY recommend it. And if you watch the movie...DO NOT think that because the movie sucked...the book will too. If its has kept ME of all people...who finds anything that isnt habs related or funny to be a bore ( i do enjoy a bit of history ) then you're sure to emjoy this book!!! HIGHLY recommended!!! Has anyone else read it here?

Well, I read all the time - I never don't have a book on the go.  I don't often read novels (maybe 1 or 2 a year), but I have read The DaVinci Code, and loved it.  I also read Dan Brown's Angels and Demons, and liked it about as much.  In fact, I read them both about two years ago, and get them a little mixed up in my mind.  I'll definitely go see the movie.

Great book is right Johab! I couldn't put it down once I started reading it.


When you finish DaVinci Code, read Angels and Demons. It's also by Dan Brown and just as good. I don't know which one is better. It has a theological theme as well. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!

I, like Johab, thoroughly enjoyed the novel.  And Johab - have seen the movie and the book is far better IMHO.

 Habgirl....chances are that the movie wont be as good as the book...never are. But im sure i will still enjoy the movie. I love putting actually images into my head of how things happen. See in my head...i follow the exageration...so i get lost very easily sometimes and have to go back and read it again....but yeah...keeps things interesting. Either way....im hoping i get the book CLOSE to finishes before tomorrow.....( ive read 137 pages already today.... ( a johab record....) and halfway through the book and its only my 4th day with it. ( 232 pages )...another Johab Record......The thing i like about this book thought is it is a picture edition. Why they talk about an art piece or historical articfact, there is an actual picture of the object. REALLY neat....and it really helps put things in place in my head....

Johab; you'd probably like John Irving's books.  My favourite was The World According to Garp.  Both the book and the movie were excellent.  Garp was played by Robin Williams in the movie.

lol......... yes johab.  it was sarcastic to the extreme.  i am fully aware that millions upon millions have read the book and enjoyed it, and that it is a best-seller that has the whole world talking.  thus, the humour lies in the hypothetical scenario that somebody would tell you that nobody would read the book that you have mentioned, and that you're crazy for bringing it up.  Like most of my posts, it's supposed to be glanced at, possibly arouse a small snicker, and then be overlooked. 


HabGirl....... please grow up, and possibly train your brain to detect a witty and/or humourous little line, instead of fooling yourself into thinking that you understand what has been posted, and that you have the wits to try and "put the poster in his place".  And it is no secret that you still hate me, but it would be nice if you could show it less.   I expect the quality and maturity level of your posts to improve in the near future.  Thanks for coming out.

Once again, we all are entitled to our opinions....personally (and for personal reasons) I have no interest whatsoever in anything to do with the book or movie, but that is my privilege.

I have had 101 people speak to me about the book and it sounds really interesting (and what I have read in excerpts has been), but it amazes me how many people believe it to be factual instead of a piece of fiction. It kind of lessons the importance of other non-fiction books when that happens. I will most likely see the movie though.

I've heard nothing but terrible things re: the movie.


I think I might read the book, but will wait for the movie to be released on the Movie Networks before I'll watch it Sounds like a waste of money judging solely by the reviews it's gotten' so far.

My thoughts exactly. As a history buff I hate it when a novel, supposedly based on fact but in reality total bs ,is presented as the gospel truth. Peoples perceptions of historical events are formed by these books, if they want to or not. Don't get me wrong, I have nothing against a good yarn, but if I remember correctly the first sentence in the book is something like : It is a fact that, etc, etc... these so called facts have been shown to be a figment of someone's very fertil imagination...

I will actually be putting a Sermon/Essay up on my Korea website by a Reverend Doctor I know who is also an Architect. He looks at some of the 'facts' in the book and as you said, the guy should not be using the word fact. I studied Jewish and Christian History as part of my World Religions degree and even from that I knew a lot of what he said was not true.
At least it has people talking about History, Religion, and books... the arts live on! lol

Could you please give me a link to the website.  I was under the impression that the book was fiction.  But even so, people reading it will assume it is all TRUE.  I do not and would like to see the Sermon/Essay.

I do admit that the author did a REALLY good job at linking everything together, and that is why it is so easy to believe everything in the book it true. I could go into another issue that i GUARENTEE will show MANY different views on this board. BUUUUT I dont think it is appropriate and in respect for people, i wont be bringing it up here.....
