I missed the last game because I was in Scotland playing golf last week (and marvelling over that ninth wonder of the world -- haggis). The papers over there do cover hockey -- but they only had the scores from the Scottish women's team! No NHL coverage in the papers or on TV, and where I was internet access is a joke.
So my question to you loyal Habs fans is -- what really happened on Tuesday?
I've spent the day reading through many of your posts from the past week, and it sounds like the boys gave it their all only to lose to a fluky OT goal.
But now that you've had a week to mull it over, can anybody give me a brief synopsis of the game? It was torture being over there and not knowing.
Thanks. And thanks for a great season, all of you. Well, almost all of you...
I look forward to all the suggestions the posters on this board are going to have for BG as the summer unfolds.
On to golf season, which is where my real inner demons come out screamin'.
The game was probably the best one of the six. The Habs played great but were stymied by (1) two goal posts and (2) fantastic goaltending by Cam Ward. Huet too was fantastic. The Habs scored early on the PP (blast by Souray), and Carolina tied it up some 30 seconds later on a weird sorta goal by ex-Hab Mark Recchi (a broken play, puck squirted to him and he shot it low in the corner, through a crowd).
Then it was end-to end for the most part, with good chances either ending in great saves and posts. Ward made a great one on Ribeiro, and Huet stopped a couple of late breakaways.
Then OT.................. a few seconds in, Ryder should have dumped the puck on a line change but tried to carry it in the Carolina zone, and coughed it up. A quick pass from the defenseman to Cory Stillman, he steps over the blueline and lets go a slapper.............it gets tipped early on by Rivet and finds the far corner over Huet's sholder. The Rivet tip was problematic, but Huet would stop that one nine times out of ten. A numbing end to the year.
BTW, you can see the goals on NHL.com.
