I think the Habs should do it. As much a catalyst and leader as Saku is, Richards brings more offensive skill and scoring punch. And Richards is 6 years younger than Saku. Richards centering Ryder and Higgins would be more potent and Saku-Ryder-Higgins
The habs have cap room, while Tb don't. Perhaps a "sign and tade" with Richards might be possible. Richards salary will be limited if he insists on staying in TB, maybe he agrees to come to Mtl for more money, and TB are happy to get Saku in exchange, for his leadership etc.
If the habs made this trade, the next step would be to land a big strong centre, like Jason Arnott, to play with Kovy.
Not a chance, Koviu has been a huge under achiever, but we sure noticed how much we missed his leadership in the play offs. I think the guy is one of our few untouchables. I hope he retires a Hab. The guy has overcome so much, I would hate to see another team enjoy having his character.
I'm a big Saku fan myself ... he's my favorite hab actually. But that doesn't mean I would hold onto him if an obviously superior playmaking /scoring centre is available. And Richards is no slouch defensively either ... he's a candidate for the top defensive forward.
I think Gainey would make this trade because it improves the team. There will be other leaders emerging on this habs team. Komi will be force in the league with a few more seasons on his frame. And Higgins is on his way to becoming a warrior with a scoring touch, so it won't be long before teammates take greater notice of him.
Saku's abilities will only decline as we go forward. Richard will be steady for many years. And Richards also has leadership skills.
I'm a little torn over this question, but I have a question of my own: What's all this talk about Brad Richards on this site lately? Is there anay reason to believe he will become a Hab? Why him? Why does his name come up all the time? Has he ever expressed an interest in coming to Montreal?
(OK, I realize that was five questions, but essentially all the same thing.)

Maybe...
Maybe his charm? Myself, I don't see hm as a hab, doesn't fit. Just like you know Roenick will never be a hab....

And remember that he also hoisted the Conn Smythe Trophy - it would be nice to have a playoff superstar one more time.............. I'd like to have him AND Saku on my team!
Not to mention another Eastern Canadian - the pride of Murray Harbour, PEI. There's a nice restaurant on the corner there (the place is so small it only has one corner).

Love that PEI! Not so sure about the bridge though...
Here's a link to a web page devoted to the "Day" they had for him last summer in Murray Harbour, PEI (Plouf, were you there?). Neat small-town country stuff:
If I was Tampa I would try and trade St Louis and use the money saved to sign Richards as St Louis after a MVP season and older really dropped off after signing his contract.......

The bridge is no sweat - a lot handier than the ferry. If you have a high vehicle, you can see the ocean while you drive, but if you have a typical low car, all you see is cement on both sides. Very boring, but handy.

There was something cool and remote about taking the ferry there....

Ya Richards is a future Captain and a better all around player than Saks. I'd trade him straight up but that no trade clause obviously makes this fictional.
good one Pablo..lol...that sounds like some of the trades that maple laff fans call into the fan 590 radio in Toronto. ....tie domi for crosby.... I wouldn't tade saku even without a no trade..

Wasn't there, but I play on a soccer team with a couple of guys that went to high school with him. Never met Brad himself though.
On the Richards as a Hab question. Obviously it'd be great to have him here. He's from PEI for crying out loud, and a proven playoff performer. But I actually think Lecavalier is more the kind of guy we need.
