I would convert him to a forward ..seriously , he has good speed , size and the shot , as a defenceman is only good on the power play , defensively he is the worst dman the Habs have .......ala Dandenault in Motown , played more forward than D
I'd buy him a wooden stick! Seriously, how many times did he break those useless composites and squander excellent scoring opportunities?!?! I blame this series loss on technology

I like Souray. I like the way he faces the media. I like his "game face". He has a solid shot. He would be a captain on many teams.
But we have Koivu...I think it is pretty evident how valuable he is...huh?
AND... Like you JohnM, I sometimes I wonder about Souray's defensive skills. He got better as the year went on, but he got smoked way too many times this year.
On the other hand...and this will sound funny, but...I don't like the way Markov looks in terms of passion. He does not give me the feeling that he would do anything to win. Just the look in his eye's look less than enthusiastic.
Souray on the other hand...I think he would do almost anything...so as funny as it sounds, I would take Souray over Markov if I had to choose...
Muller, Markov was the biggest disappointment for me in this postseason. I expected him to be a #1 defenceman but he was far from that. I think he has the talent so we shouldn't give up on him yet. Let's secure a real #1 in the offseason to work with Markov and show him what it takes to play at the next level.

I would just keep both. Just like Ryder, Souray has a lot of work to in the off season. Concerning Markov, you can't teach a player how to have heart but his mediocre play in this series is not a determinating factor YET.
Souray gets turned inside out very often IMO, I actually said he should be a forward yesterday. Put him on the point for powerplays, and keep him upfront for 5 on 5s.
For as much as I like Souray the "man", he is a brutal defenseman. He just seems to get burned on countless goals. He will see himself many times in Rock 'em Sock 'em getting burned - Briere, Spezza, etc. Still it is hard not to like his dedication and leadership, and he just seems like a good guy. If he could significantly improve his defensive game, he would be one of the better d-men in the league.
Ryder - this guy is still pissing me off. He just doesn't do much of anything. He got an overtime winner, but I don't think I saw him after that. Really needs to work on his game at both ends of the ice. Despite the 30 goals (most of which are pp), a dissapointing season for this kid.
Markov - an absolute dissapointment in the post-season. This guy is our pp catalyst and he didn't even do that. I don't know what the problem is but he should fix it. A blemish on a breakout regular season.
Ribs - still waiting for him to do something. Poor playoff performance to go along with a dissapointing regular season. I think all signs are pointing to the EXIT door for this kid.
I like the way things are heading though. I didn't even expect them to make the playoffs in January, so it was a bonus.

The problem with Souray is he's not very good at that aspect of the game. Getting beaten badly one-on-one has nothing to do with whether or not he's defensive-minded.
As for Kovalev, great player when he wants to be. But he hasn't exactly been putting the puck in the net this year.
