Hey Ab, this is meant to be a positive thread. If you can't keep it that way, go cry in your little misery corner all you want, but it's been pretty boring enduring your nonsense recently...
The best news of all is, look at our rookies, look our sophmores, and look at Huet. All in all not a bad year, plus we did lose to one hot goaltender. GO HABS GO!

I would beg to differ on that one. With the exception of game 1, ever single one of these games was a one goal game. This was a very exciting series. They were the better team, and we kept it that close.

What can I say? The better team won. So kudos to the 'Canes. Every single game was close, and our guys battled hard. It's a tough pill to swallow that we lost, but I can still hold my head high knowing they gave it everything they had. And the future looks really good in Montreal!

Actually I will not be negative just realistic. We just do not have the horses or experience right now. Carolina has an awesome team, top to bottom. Staal is gonna be a star in that league for years to come and Williams was their "Eric Cole" this year. We do not have the firepower to overcome a good defence and solid goaltending which ha shurt us all year. Th egreta news is that we are young, we have guys coming up who will help, and Gainey will get some aquisitions to address a center ice position that, at this time, is little better than AHL caliber with Saks out. We will be back.

Not sure I agree about Habs being outplayed By Caes. Yes, game 5 Habs were definetely outplayed, couldn't score on the PP, etc.
But tonight game 6, the Habs hab the better chances and couldn't find the twine (this a reflection on the Habs deficiencies, not the Canes stengths). Games 3 and 4 were to some extent influenced by the refereeing (or lack of good officiating) and poor discipline on the part of the Habs ... again this says more about the Habs than the Canes.
Overall I do not feel the Habs were outplayed by the Canes, so much as they collapsed and/or did not play up to their potential.
I will not say the loss of Saku is to blame ... as Canes were also missing a star in Cole.

Not being negative! Just stating the obvious. We got beat four straight because we didn't match up well enough. They were and are the better team.
To add to this, we will improve as a team and won't always be looking to upset a better team. Within the next few years, we'll be the better team expected to win. Is that fair?
I am proud of my team! The future will be great, especially when we get that missing Center and D-man and our youngsters develop a little more. What was important for me was for the team to show character and desire and they did just that!

Great post Nietche. I am not saying they were "outplayed" either. It was just a depth issue. Carolina had a knack for getting a key goal at a key time and we were a couple players short of being able to overcome the hump to get those. Our d played great and Huet was awesome. I agree with teh Koivu thing as Cole is every bit as valuable a player to Carolina (especially against Montreal) as Koivu is to the habs. Carolina finished 2nd in the division for a reason guys and we finished 7th for a reason. Yes sometimes upsets happen and we were close. But we are still a few players and a year or two away from being the team Carolina is on a consistent basis.

It's just that this is meant to be a thread focusing on a team that didn't have a chance on paper giving us an awesome ride, even in the games they lost.
If you want to start quoting the front page of "The Bleeding Obvious Gazette", why not start a thread called "Hey guys, let me tell you all something you already know, but don't want to be reminded of 5 seconds after the end of the season..." If that fits, that is
Honestly AB, no one wants to hear what you think because we already know. At least And-o has insight (though he tries to hard to be clever...kinda like Ribero looking for the perfect play.) Anyway, my spin is that the Habs played very well. Ward was a little overrated, I thought he played well, not great. The refs were the difference in this series and the 3rd period of game 6 when the puts their whistles in their arses was a shame.
I hope you guys re-read these tomorrow and realize I'm not being negative relative to the bashing you're giving me! I also realize it's a sensitive time!
I'll sleep on it.

Look at the title of the thread, then look at your comments
were they relative, or do you think a seperate thread would have been a more appropriate place to air them
BTW - thanks for making this now more about what you wanted to talk about - nice hijack!
Surge, Hats off to your team, they worked hard and did what needed to be done.
Barry, as a goalie, I don't care if it was deflected, it was a weak goal...SO WHAT! Christo played like a hall of famer since they gave him the ball, I am so proud of him!!!
Saku, man what stones! As hurt as you are, you showed your face at the rink man, I've never been more proud of a Habs captain (and remember, I'm not one of the Saku supporters). No hab has anything to be ashamed of, the 2nd place team beat them, and les habitant gave them a serious scare based on ghosts, tradition & pure guts. I wish the Canes nothing but good, but I beleive the Devils will hand them their hats post haste!
Huet, while one save away from making it happem, is clearly our new Patrick Roy. Saku will be back with a vengance in 06/07!!! Some changes need to be made, but I will not critique ANYONE who played tonight!
I'm thrilled for the future of the greatest franchise in hockey history!!!

I went back and re-read the opening thread and I went off topic...Sorry Brooks!
It was a great job from our team. We kept it a close series but to say we're a great team is a stretch but I agree we'll be a good if not great team in a few years.

Cheers man! And here's to a great 06-07 - the year of the Rib-less Habs!
Bottom line this is a team that is still a couple of years away...
But a lot of the pieces are in place...biggest needs going forward are as follows:
Goal Scorer - habs have no pure snipers unlike all other teams Power Forward - Anyone but Bertuzzi, he's not a classiest enough player for Montreal. But someone in the Ethan Moreau, Steve Bernier, Chris Kunitz type mold.
The reality is we have the playmakers....Koivu, Kovy, Pleks we just need the finishers as the Perezhogin fan jobs and Ribeiro misses showed tonite.
Guys as good as done as Montreal Canadiens: Ribeiro, Sundstrom, Downey

That line stood out to me. While I loved Theodore, I had always thought he had gotten lucky, having the puck hit posts and whatnot. To me, Huet seems much more solid in the net. He has a few weaknesses, sure, but every goalie does. I just feel that he's so calm and collected in the net and because of that, it transfers to the players on the team, and even to the people watching him. I'm looking forward to see him as our genuine starter right from day 1 next year.
